As I said, my primary motivation was selfish - 'hip hop slave bike' is an embarrassing thing to say out loud. I just think there's a lot more downside to the name than upside, especially since the original reason for its selection was neither clear nor very good to begin with.
Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that this name is a bit cringey.

i actually thought the name was hip hop sleds, because everyone on the forum is old and it read like "look at these hippity hop sleds!"

Sled originated from the term ‘hipster sled’, I think. A forum historian may come along and correct me here.
Sled is a personal favourite from the LFGSS glossary.

No worries

Thought this was pretty rad. Deserves a more blinging chainset, if I had one criticism.

For whatever it's worth I agree about the name, for all the reasons mentioned. Obviously this forum is based in the UK but as a resident of the US, I definitely think coupling the term "slave" with "hip hop" starts to skirt around the edge of some historical and current racial dynamics that are not so flattering.

Is that champagne gold the original factory colour or a respray? Never seen a caad in that colour before.
Reminds me of the Bontrager Race X-lite wheels from around 2007 that came in a champagne gold like that -

I think it was a stock albeit uncommon colour

really like that except for the zipps! feel like they distract from the frame.

HHSB was a term coined by Tyan. Blame him. For everything.
It was always a joke. The pursuit of pure slave (on the other hand) is and always will be serious business.

I'd go the other way.
The shimano just grates on an italian frame imo.
Campag just works.
idk maybe not but i think 'slave' has enough common uses (going back a very long time) that it doesn't strike me as something that we ought to be concerned about. like if you were to casually run across this thread (lol) what would be the worst think you could possibly guess? i feel like all ideas are fantastical.
my feeling is that the real goal here is to demonstrate our commitment to social justice verbally by self censoring to what i consider a comical degree whilst patting ourselves on the back. not to say this is incompatible with doing actual good but i think it is thought of as something that is good in and of itself.
anyway i think it was an interesting and unique way to refer to this type of bike.
