  • I misheard it--she actually says 'child'. I'm sure you could use the mishearing as a racist slur, but of now it doesn't seem to be established as one (although part of one of the worst insults in Chinese languages). I just didn't pick it up because it's such a bizarre (and obviously racist in another way) thing to say.

    You missed the point, or maybe we’re all talking about slightly different things. I understood her saying Chau (although she may have said child), and didn’t doubt she meant it in an insulting way, but that doesn’t make ‘Chau’ an insult. I’d never heard it used an insult, for all I knew it might be an established slur, or she might be using it like I described above. My point was that the word itself isn’t strictly an insult as far as I can tell. That make sense?
