Came back to say this. Literally a synonym for obtain.

Michael Gove
I hate most of them, but he really does take the fucking shitty biscuit

Welcome to the joke, feel free to make yourself at home.

I've heard people argue that you should say "Can I have a coffee?", which is obviously nonsense because, of course, anyone can have/own/hold a coffee. The question is can you obtain one.

I struggle to be too upset by the can I have / can I get variations because it’s all completely intelligible, it’s just language changing. Infer / imply bothers me because the meanings are distinct and I don’t really understand why they are confused.
Came here, because I was just reminded that I LOATHE bub / bubs/ bubba / little one/ mama / mumma and every other cutesy alternative. I get diminutives when you’re talking to a baby - but why when you’re talking about them? Or to an adult parent? Mystifying.

I really dislike "hun" being an abbreviation of "honey"

There is only one way:

Infer / imply bothers me because the meanings are distinct
Yes, and ditto disinterested/uninterested. Yes I know the difference is subtle but, grrrr

The reason to hate it is because it sounds American and everyone hates Americans.
I get that.

People who buy stuff on eBay, then go radio silent. Why FFS?

To move potential buyers away from your item to their identical but cheaper one, while increasing perceived market value of the item?
I ducking hate how targeted online advertising and social media content have created impenetrable ideological echo chambers. Used to be you could guesstimate what sort of mindset someone might have from the papers they read, the tv they watched, their education or employment. Now, I have no way of knowing what ‘world’ people around me are exposed to, even my own kin who seem to inhabit a completely alien reality to mine.

A couple for all the haters:
The word 'solutions' in company names/descriptions. Nearly every single time it could be removed and it would still be clear what the company does.
And riding my rim braked bike through gritty puddles, almost feeling the rim grinding as it happens.

Being taught in analogy. Poor analogy at that. Sitting in zoom classes and everyone is going spare because our tutor can’t actually explain what we’re learning, instead just constantly saying:
“Think of X as Y, and A as B” etc. There comes a point when a literal description is just way more useful, and in fact fundamental to understanding. I’m never going to understand how things interact if you can’t teach us actual definitions. This is a bit abstract, but fuck me I'm an adult, I’m happy to be introduced to new concepts and accept that I just need to learn them.
I wouldn’t mind if it helped other people but it seems like everyone in the class only understands once I push the tutor to describe things literally.
In short, fuck zoom classes.

Likewise ‘Systems’.
I’ve lost count of now many vans I have seen displaying an acronym followed by one of these two words. Says nothing about the nature of their work or anything to encourage you to look them up should they be of use in future.
As for the gritty puddles, where I am the grit has a high percentage of granite particles and the rate of wear on the blocks is astounding. Can’t see my precious Mavic M231’s lasting much longer. -

Granite anywhere on the drivetrain always makes me cringe!

• #15122
Is that MTB?* What you need is M231CD SUP Ceramic rims. And it just so happens....
*I don't know if M231 is a thing for road bikes and I can't be arsed to look it up

Pexmas. Bland shite

Yep. Been using this pair in various parts of the country for the last 30 years. I reckon since moving here just over a year ago they have worn more since than before.

I remember doing some races many moons ago, at Kit Hill, down to the Tamar. Don't remember granite so much as the arsenic in the dust that got churned up by the moto x-ers who used to ride around (not while we were racing, mind) Ahh, fun times.
Didn't hate it though (just to keep on topic)
It’s not even a colloquialism, it’s perfectly correct grammar. Get is a synonym for receive, and whilst “can I receive a coffee” is an insanely formal construction that only a robot or alien would use, “can I get a coffee” is totally legit.
The reason to hate it is because it sounds American and everyone hates Americans.
