  • Yes, and of course cheaper is better.

    However this is the E63-S, which has more power and torque, a mechanical LSD and a retuned chassis, and it's on half the miles of the white one.

  • Check that mileage is genuine!

  • LSD is surely a requirement for all roundabouts to and from MTB trails

  • Yes, true. Although 213 money is £49,999, and I don't have that.

    I suspect I should go with this E63, rather than that E63-S.

    The cachet of the S is always tempting, but the non-S has a better spec, and with a lightly breathed on map and £1,500 of LSD would be (from a performance perspective) above the S.

  • Look what a ruinous financial decision you made for yourself by buying the wrong Porsche and then trying to make it faster than the one you actually wanted. Just buy the S if you want it.

    I’d suggest you drive each though. AMG aren’t renowned for ride comfort.

  • Big V70 fan too , mine is manual petrol but is just a solid motor.
    18 years old , cost £700 , takes bikes Inside , SUP on the roof , tows the boat to the slipway and it’s comfy and smooth .
    Old school wagon that I don’t worry about .. not,don’t care , don’t worry .
    And that’s a nice way to feel about a car ...

  • That is the bit that I don't get, why would the dealer/specialist not check? Looks like second hand car dealers are still dodgy as.

  • Oh I get that. If you want the S, then I'd get the S, just to save the inevitable feeling of wanting to upgrade in 6 months. I'd hazard a guess though that you could get a standard one with less of a deficit on miles, and make some changes with it to make it a car you are really happy with for a lot less than difference in cost.

    The wrong Porsche would have been a 30k 997.

  • A huge part of the fun for me with my 996 has been modifying it, and the engine project which I've been involved in for three years now would (I think) never have started if my starting position had been the M96 3.6 or 3.8 engine in the 997 - it would certainly never have started if it'd been the MA2.

    Not really. There is some cross over but not as much as you'd think.

    Availability is easier in the US as the 5C/A5 Beetle shares more many more parts with the Jetta (Bora) and Jettas sell very well in the US. I had one BITD and loved it.

    For the more recent models, VW only sold about 30k cars Beetles per year in the US with the same sales numbers in Europe. Jetta numbers for Europe average closer to 15k. So the size of the aftermarket is pretty small in the grand scheme of things. (numbers from Calessalesbase)

    The VW Vortex site, which should have a lot of the interchangeability info is too US focused and the UK forums are pretty dead. So there may be more options, but I am struggling to find the right information.

  • On that note u can understand why the SUV is so successful here.

    Rides speed bumps like they don exist.

    Allows for poor (kerb riding) driving ability.

    Loads of position presence.

    Easy kid access / no back breaking estate shite.

    Hybrid options.

  • Imagine that in South London with all the speed bumps and sleeping policemen. I'd give it a month before the front had been sculpted by tarmac.
