Contrary to how it usually goes, the more I look at this bike the less I like it.

Yeah i get that , I feel like i didn't look at it properly at first.
I like most of it but the Shifter , RD and handlebars are not great.

Thats a nice and heavy overpriced hybrid.

All those hybrids that could fit decent sized tyres, had proper guard mounts, front and rear rack mounts and weren’t just road bikes with 28c gatorskins, flat bars and a shit groupset?

Whyte

Actually Marin too and some Riverside

And Giant

The PRST-1 was certainly innovative in its field but I don’t think it’s what I would call a hybrid.

Most hybrids had mounts for (rear) rack and mudguards already. Now you can buy fat-tyred ones too: Kona Dew, Cannondale Treadwell, Marin Muirwoods, Whyte Portobello...

No1 deserves a Surly, not even your enemies

Ignore amey. This is super nice, front rack perhaps?

I was just poking fun at the owner of the flat bar bar suspension equipped gravel bike. I am aware that those are now all options that I would happily recommend if someone wanted a standard hybrid, but in the past (when the straggler was around) they certainly weren't. I could of course be wrong.

You are. You need to visit Halfords, Decathlon to see how the rest of us live.

Travel back in time to visit Halfords in 2012?
Remind me what fork “the rest of us” put on their gravel bike as a necessary upgrade?

Thanks man, it's had many guises, but yes with a Surly front rack and Clement Strada 42 tyres over the last year. Great for sending down towpaths, bridleways and roads on the work commute
The cages are from Bontrager and are available in this "gorgeous baby blue", frameset and guards are rattlecanned with belton colours. Frame had to be repainted anyway because of the repairs and the silver guards looked totally off so i gave them a quick spray too. Not the most durable finish but good enough for this free frame and parts bin bike.
