Seems fair

I don’t really expect the exemption to last indefinitely, but it makes you think.

I think there's a fair chance it will last. Two reasons:
- Old cars have become the territory of the rich and privileged - who tend to be influential.
- Pollution from old cars, although it is real, is so minute in the big picture I think it's quite likely to be forgotten.

Haha yes I had a couple of those BX GTis in the 80s – they went like the clappers. Three speeding offences on the M3...nearly got another one cos late on the way to the driver re-education class in Basingstoke. Speeding was rife on motorways at that era, 90mph+ all too common. Much better now really.

Cracking job Citron!
I had a plums and custard 2CV which was completely rotten and i ended up giving it away for free...
It was awful - rattly, rusty, slow, backfired and it got laughed at by the local kids when i drove it through town which is ironic as I lived in Totnes at the time... -

I have a feeling that the taxation system may change to include a road user charge as recently introduced on hgvs and that is likely to include everything.
There is also a fair chance that the rolling 40 year classic vehicle exemption will come to an end and revert too a fixed date as previous. -

Thanks, I can probably cope with people laughing and pointing.
Slow and rattle is quite fitting. -

Old cars have become the territory of the rich and privileged
Are the rich and privileged precisely the people who don't mind paying ULEZ tax to drive their classic car? I work (normally) in Chelsea, my boss spots almost daily on his way to the office the same car with a new parking fine everytime, in a resident only street. Probably practical for the (wealthy) owner... Why bother with legal parking when you can afford the fine.

This is looking really promising! My parents 2CV4 was the same color (my dad was complaining the 4 wasn't powerful enough and regretted not having a 6).
He sold the car to a colleague who, many years later, had the chassis collapse under him one morning as he was turning the engine on to go to work! -

I'm sure veLLo's Dad was right to think he would have been better off with the 602 engine - even thirty years ago the 425 woud have struggled to keep up with the traffic. The disc brakes which normally go with the bigger engine (although not on Citron's car apparently) are a definite improvement, especially from the servicing point of view.
I had the chassis collapse problem after I'd owned the car a couple of years. I helped an expert change it - he started on a Friday evening and I drove the finished job out of the workshop about 6pm the next day - there were no teething problems. My expert said he'd done this job about a hundred times up till that point. My 'new' chassis is an early pattern version - it's galvanised and is said to have had two other bodies on it before mine!

The disc brakes came along in 1981 and are certainly better and easier to replace, although the drums are fine they can be a pain to change and set up and I have seen it said that the handbrake is better on drums.
I am still on the original chassis which has had some work, the chassis on the 70s and earlier cars don't seem to suffer as much as the more modern ones. -

Yes yes but go and finish the car.

Loving the progress on this. My first car was an ‘86 blue celeste 2CV6, previously owned by a nun in Brighton. So many good memories. Years of sea air ate the chassis eventually.

Cheers @Screwball and @bigben, it’s been a bit slow this week lack of time and motivation, but I’m hoping to get a few hours on Wednesday.

You were right it was a bit of bugger, I think made worse by new seals.
I have done it before and my memory tells me it was much easier.

40+ year old cars are exempt, which means not too long until you can have a BX. If you can find one.
