Your fit should have you optimised for the hoods (or brake lever grabbing on flat bars), so if you're riding around in the drops all day your bars might be too high, your bike could be too short, your saddle too far forward etc.
Or you're trying desperately to take pressure off your arse for any number of other reasons.
I went from 38cm road bars to 44cm 12deg flare Easton gravel bars. They both work. The wider option is almost certainly better for actual gravel riding. I don't feel any disadvantage on the road. The flared drops still feel weird to me and I don't use them so much (but also, who's riding around on the drops most of the time except people with a bad bike fit or whatever).
