Bright day means tough exposure settings.
Does the camera have an auto bracketing / HDR function? If not, you might be better off using a recent iPhone which will automatically provide better compilation of dark and light parts of the photo.

Make sure you AE lock on the section of the photo you want to expose correctly. That'll brighten up the interior shots a lot.
