  • Real christmas trees - bought one with the trunk chopped into a point and standing upright in a nice disk of wood. Is the expectation/requirement that you also have a proper holder in which you can water the tree or does no-one actually do this? Just gone down a worrying rabbithole of christmas tree fires. I think I should probably buy a holder which can take water but would appreciate experience/verification....

  • 20+ years of real christmas trees in our house and we've only ever used a screw in stand with no water and we've never had a tree fire.

  • I've never had a Christmas tree myself but in the 40+ years I can remember my parents/father having one I can't remember any fires and I doubt it's the kind of thing one would forget. I can see that a dead tree is likely to be flammable, but unless you're daft enough to hang real candles from the tree, what's the ignition source going to be?

  • This is basically the reassurance I was after! I ended up finding the chap I bought it from on the streets last night, asked him and he said the same thing... I imagine the lack of water may mean going this early results in a rather tired tree come christmas day, but that's fine as I won't be here then anyway...

    Cheers
