• Antlers are nice, but a bit pricey. It seems like some are tasty and some aren't though - the one we got from a local gamekeeper seems the most appealing (/Dancing James)

  • Oh yeah, I completely forgot about antlers. Not cheap by Odie's had the same antler since before we got him and it's only just getting to the point where we'll probably get him a new one for Christmas.

  • Maybe consider some raw bones too

  • Nylabones work pretty well. Real bones are good too.

If she absolutely must destroy something, a nice bit of brown cardboard (minus tape and labels) was the least hazardous thing I came up with.

  • Insurance renewal for my 6yo Boston has just come in from Animal Friends, and it's gone up from £515 per year to £829. It was expensive enough already but that's obscene. Any recommendations for other insurers?

  • My last 3 pups all liked to wrestle and chew a Conti GP4000, the only proper use for them.

  • Depends what cover you want I guess. We swap between Direct Line and More Than for our 4yr old GSP. The renewal quote normally comes in around 50% higher then I beat them down to pretty much the same as the previous year.

  • Both have been great at paying out for claims btw

  • Thanks for the reminder. Otto loved chewing a knotted inner tube when he was teething.

  • Just stumbled across this photo of Otto on the first day he was at home with us.

  • O. M. F. G look at him.

I met my friends 4 month old lurcher pup the other day. Made me realise how much Odie has grown since we've had him. He's more like a proper doggo than a pup now.

He's taken to sitting at the benches in our kitchen like this. No idea why but it make us laugh.

  • Our Vinnie enjoys an antler/split antler. Also quite keen on a Yak bar. They leave a flippin' mess though.

  • And both make a racket if you've got hard floors.

  • We have an unused Weatherbeeta Fleece in black (55cm/22") is anyone wants it for frees:

    SE16 or post.

  • Scotty likes buffalo horns, they actually last more than 3 minutes too.

  • Top to bottom

    Wilds & Green chew root
    Buffalo Horn
    2x Stag Horns

We also use Yakkers (Solid Yaks Milk)

Suits our bulldog down to the ground.

  • Anyone had any issues with foxes while walking their dogs in London?

Was just out with Benny at the end of our road where there's a small green on the corner and a fox approached from one of the side streets and benny growled and strained at his leash ever so slightly so it ran across the road and hid in a front garden (in sight of me over the top of a parked car) it watched us for a couple of minutes while benny sniffed around in the hope he might find somewhere suitable to drop a poo.

in the end he gave up and we headed back into our road but while we were on the far corner of the green the fox then came across the road and sat on the edge of the green staring at benny. we walked into the street and benny stopped for a sniff a bit further along but this time the fox came trotting towards us at speed in a manner that did not even hint at any kind of caution on its part.

at this point I pull benny to get a move on and hustle him towards the door. the fox comes to the corner about 10m from our front door and sits and watches us go in the building (block of flats). by the time i'm at the first floor window the fox is outside the front door circling.

my gf finally has the courage to take the dog out for a toilet break on her own and be able to handle him by herself (she was very nervous of dogs before him) which reduced my workload somewhat as he needs regular wee breaks every few hours because he drinks like a fish. bit worried about needlessly telling her to be careful and having to do all the trips myself again but also don't want to risk either of them if there is a chance this fox is trouble.

the worst bit is when he sat on the corner watching us go in his eyes did that glowy thing where the streetlights caught them just right to make it even more intimidating.

  • We had a local fox this summer who would follow us on our nightly walk. It was half the size of Sally and would run away as soon as she noticed and barked, but would soon come back and trot quite close. This was over about 200 metres near the house. After a while, it stopped, or went away - there’s stacks of foxes round here, can never tell.

My fave fox experience was living in Hampstead. Walking home late, someone has dropped their takeaway on the pavement (chow mein, iirc). A cat was chomping away at it, while a big dog fox sat patiently 5 feet away, waiting for the cat to let him have some.

  • this is a pretty big fucker (for a fox) definitely a full grown adult.

  • The local foxes try to antagonise Otto a bit but he goes absolutely beserk at them so it never lasts long. They normally lose their nerve and cheese it when he switches into full on kill mode.

Otto's response to seeing a fox is so angry that I can feel his heart thunping through the lead when he sees one and lunges!

I definitely have to make sure I have a tight hold on a short lead for night walks.

  • I spent about £30 on various things for Crumpet to chew on yesterday. Obviously an empty cardboard box is much more interesting.

  • side note: why does that brown wrapping paper always smell of vomit?

  • Amazon use uncured paper as it's cheaper.
