  • That is true.

  • There's the catch isn't it. We've got 103, 78, 76 and 74cm. Maybe I could live with some gaps though.

  • When my mum lived in the London (she's from Stamford Hill way) they honestly didn't go South of the rive
She also told me they didn't have clocks facing South as the people South of the river didn't need to know the time, that is of course bullshit.

  • had sort of hoped the solution wasn't as many steps as this... but here we are

what should i do about this area/other gaps? is there some sort of foam ?

  • Skirting board chat. Went for this in 195mm. Might be too fancy. We’ll see

  • I'd probably box that out in some kind of timber construction with an access panel for that one hypothetical day when you need access to whatever that pipe is.

  • More nooks to collect dust and grime, great!

  • Cheers. I've read the HMRC guidance but there's not much in there about part ownership. Common intention constructive trust gives me something else to look up though.

@TW so far as I've read charging rent should make it permissible. You have to be very careful though to ensure that the rent is always market value.

  • yep think this is going to be my approach

    Thanks all :-)

  • I took up all the carpets today. Now I have to find a way to get rid of 60sqm of carpet and underlay. Was quoted £275 by one company, which seems very steep to me. HWRC would take them for free, but I don't have a car. Local council not doing bulky council items as they're backed up due to covid.

We will hopefully be redoing our kitchen in spring of next year. Would it be bizarre to hold onto them until then, and then get a mini skip and bin everything together? Or will I be equally shocked by the cost of skip rental?

  • Skips are a bloody fortune now, id try and bribe someone with a car to help you do some dumb runs.

  • I didn't think it would be so hard to get rid of things. :(

My neighbours have a people carrier. Time to start battling my natural aversion to human interaction? Or I might just put everything in the loft while I learn to drive.

  • Seems they offer a refer a friend discount:

    https://simplisafe.co.uk/refer-a-friend?situation=mobile-footer

I'm about to order a system if someone wants to refer me and get a £50 voucher.

  • I'll DM it to you now

  • If anyone else wants a referral link hit me up

  • Anyone live/d or near South End or Leigh-on-Sea?

We go to South End occasionally as it's an easy trip and we like beach and water. Mainly breakfast then down to the end past all the arcades. Average primary schools and covid have us toying with the idea of moving at some point.

Places like Poole are too far away from my family and work opportunities, so that sort of area seemed worth thinking about.

    Thoughts?

  • Hastings 100% better than Southend.

  • Some good friends of mine moved out there to buy after being priced out of bits of Essex closer into London. They like their street and immediate neighbours but they find the seaside a bit much, particularly in the summer. Traffic is terrible and it’s less walkable that you would think. They don’t have kids yet but I don’t think they are that excited about the schools.

  • I though Hastings was the drugs capital of the South? Or is that just a comment on Southend?

  • It has had and still has its problems but it and St Leonards combined are great overall. Much nicer countryside around it too than Southend and far more interesting housing stock, pub/music/art/hills an Old Town, miles of empty beaches all the way to Eastbourne and to Rye the other way. And of course a little bit more historic than S'End. I sat on the beach at Southend in the summer once and had to wear a three sided box on my head to make the view in anyway acceptable.

  • Were you looking back inland or at the brown estuary sludge?

Southend-on-Sea is a breach of advertising standards.

  • Do you have a friend with a Zipvan account?

I got rid of all mine with a Zipvan and the local tip.

  • But if you need to, make sure to book ahead with the registration number. Wasted a day and a van rental because Camden are dicks about this.

We got rid of our carpet by cutting it into small bits with a Stanley knife and putting them in the general rubbish bags.
