  • M.o.t passed today with only 1 advisory that I'll need to sort at some point when the weather is nicer.

    Phew.

  • In the new spirit of the thread..
    In a parallel world..

    The Austin 1800 of 1970

    The Austin 1100 of 1970

  • ha. don't get me wrong. i enjoy all the engineering stuff too though understand very little of it.

but these are a completely new one on me - like a Citroen CX / NSU mash up. Amazing stuff. did they ever get made? and by who?

  • Are what they Austin princess was meant to look like.?

  • There's a few companies offering really good trim products these days. I know you were using G Techniq, I've seen very good results with Carbon Collective. This company that's doing the promo work will put something on no doubt, if it wears off after a short period of time, I'm going to try the Carbon Collective stuff. If that doesn't last as long as I expect it to, or not work as well as I want, I think I might consider painting. I assume new trim isn't available?

  • I'm honestly not sure now - it wasn't a few years ago but I know they've moved a lot of parts to Volvo Classic, so things do become available again. I bought the last two rear bumper support brackets in Europe for the 850 which was probably not a glamorous claim to fame, and they may make them again now.

  • Agreed a sale of my C55, picking the E63 up next week.

  • Didn't take long to find a buyer then!

  • Well done

  • It’s the chap who had read the thread on my car on the MB forum and asked me to let him know if I ever wanted to sell.

I will admit that this did kick start my thought process- I was intending on keeping the C55 as my recent expenditure shows.

However, the E63 is going to have a lot more space. And 550bhp.

  • Makes sense. Seems like a really good way to evidence all the time and money put into it.

  • Yes, it started as a maintenance thread and ended up being an ownership story, which funnily enough featured a lot of maintenance. I should probably have asked to have it moved to the project thread area, but left it in the maintenance section.

The advantage is that the buyer could read a log of everything I’ve done, issues I have had etc, and then when he came over today could see the effort that has gone into it.

He said it was a world away from the other one he’d looked at in terms of condition.

  • Nice, well done.

  • He said it was a world away from the other one he’d looked at in terms of condition.

This was always going to be the case. Fuck, even when I sold my Astra and I was worried it wasn't going to sell for £500 (lol), the guy said that it was the first car he'd seen that had actually been looked after/had any kind of service history.

  • I had spent three hours cleaning it this morning.

  • Does your e63 have floating hubs/discs? If so watch out for wheel refurbs causing brake judder....
My s213 went back under warranty 4 times for new discs and pads (and hubs) before they properly inspected the wheels and found slight overspray on the face of the wheel - just enough to cause it not to sit perfectly straight. Thankfully MB paid for a new set of front wheels as they had refurbished it before selling it to me.

  • Black Friday was a good day to buy new tyres with 20% discounts around. Ceramic coating the rims tomorrow before installation on Tuesday. Much excite. It's goimg to look Dope™.

  • Yeah, kinda just realised I should have been a bit more savvy with planned purchases and Black Friday. A new set of tyres being needed in the next few months for example...

  • BBS LM’s I am assuming? If so, very envious.

In other news, the E63 I was planning on buying appears to have never had it’s first service, which means I’m now (pending some service related amazement) not buying it.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, please find me an E63 that I can buy (quite swiftly, lest I have to do Christmas taxi duties in a 911).

  • Should I get a 2001 p38 - Japanese import, immaculate, would fit orange lenses and leave as is - cost £6k
    OR
A 1995 Range Rover classic 1995 that’s had older bumpers and wheels fitted and resrprayed heritage green for £9k
Either will be only car- try to preserve them bear I can and only do 3k miles a year

  • In the process of selling my car and ideal world I would be only spending £6k to free up £7k from the old car to buy a kitchen
