I’d get a R7000 GS mech and a 34t cassette.
Then a compact chainset when one of the current rings has died.
Shimano rings are forged in the fires of mount doom so always money well spent.

This guy is running 34/53 (pushing the FD limits):

That looks like a good shout. Shadow RD in 105 cable stylee for ~30 clams.

I have done 50/34 Rotor ovals and 11-32 on a RD-9000 in the Swiss alps this summer and all was great! (except for apocalyptic rain climbing the Furka)

Doesn’t he just need a dose of HTFU?
-

That works to an extent, sure. But they're already pretty handy, just tackling harder routes now.

R8000 Ultegra RD jockey wheels - are they bearings or bushings and if they're bushings, is there an aftermarket bearing option (no spendy ceramic bollocks, thanks) that might be a bit better sealed against the elements? I'm purely after longevity/durability with no maintenance and don't care about watts.
-
• #7838
Would surprise me. What’s the jockey wheel mileage on your 11-speeeds when you change them?

Looks like Ultegra are both bearing not bushing and a tenner to replace so I think I'll just get some of those. No idea on mileage. "Lots" would be a reasonable guess.
"Precision sealed bearings in both guide and tension pulleys keep drivetrain smooth and friction-free."

• #7840
Yeah, they are bearings. Hope do some replacements with nice bearings that I've stuck on some worn out 105 derailleurs in the past. I'd imagine they are comparable to ultegra, though.
-
• #7841
Yeah for a tenner I'll stick with the stock parts. Thanks

I've used these in the past and they are nice too

Sigmasport had some cheap 4iii cranks too.
I've been thinking about sticking crank-arm or pedal meters on the Kinesis. It's not like it's being ridden for proper training where I care about the numbers other than general TSS input and it would mean I could run sub-compact up the front instead of continually pushing the limits on RDs and cassettes.

Cheapest I found for 4iiii R7000 - £205

Hi yall I don't know if this is the right place to ask but...
I've got some deore m6000 hydro levers which are bh90 standard and some old xt m775 calipers that are bh59 standard.
If I used either hose but the correct olive and barb on the respective sides would that be fine? Just trying to not spend money on new calipers but I think I might have too.
-
• #7848
its fine, I'd go BH90 both ends
I did the same on my gravel bike
-
• #7849
Nice one amey!! I'll buy some new hose n barbs then✌️✌️
-
• #7850
Barbs should match the hose, olives are the same, brakes will probably work fine with whatever you mix, but do match the barbs to the hose.
