  • Selling a saxophone and someone's offered to buy it "on behalf of vintage saxophones online". He's offered to pay by BACS. Are there any scams that can be done with BACS? My spidey senses are tingling, should I insist on cash? He's mentioned collection but not sure if intending to use a courier to collect just yet.

Edit: he's collecting or his brother who lives in Wales. Sounds more legit.

None that I'm aware of in the direction you're talking about. Once you've verified that the funds are cleared in you bank account, you can release the goods. Bear in mind that BACS can mean either direct electronic transfer or a cheque payment over a branch counter, the latter might bounce so make sure it actually clears, not just shows up as a credit.

  • Thanks I'll check that he means a direct transfer. Should show up pretty much instantly in my account when the transfer is done then right (even if I can't necessarily spend it right away)?
