  • Is this a bad thing? Or a good thing? I'm not sure.

  • It’s really starting to bite as stock are affected in bicycles shop.

A lots of our product were destined for Felixstowe now being cancelled.

  • Kent will definitely stay in Tier 3 into New Year to try to reduce traffic / embarrassment...

  • "There is something deeply British about dogging.” WTF?

  • Can't knock the patriotism...

  • Not sure what you’re worried about, didn’t they just hire Grayling to sort it out?

  • I just don't understand why someone didn't tell Dominic Raab how heavily the UK relies on Felixstowe.

  • That was Dover, does he even know of Felixstowe?

  • Well, that was kind of the joke. :)

  • I think you'd actually be surprised. Being from Belgium, I had never heard of something like it. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist there, but in the UK people are often talking about it (at least by the English people I know), it gets mentioned in probably 60% of QI episodes etc. So yes, a very British thing IMO

Read that thinking you were talking about Felixstowe and it got weirder and weirder....

  • "Of course I know Felix; his room was three down from mine at Jesus..."

  • The rest of the world uses a layby for changing wheels, waiting for recovery trucks, etc... Whereas the British know that the proper uses are dogging, leaving coke bottles full of piss and fly-tipping...

    ;)

  • Naturally, there will a price to pay - for example, we would have to give up sterling and submit to the euro - if we're very lucky at parity.

Going back to my post 27585 -

Well, mentioning the Euro seems to have stirred up a much livelier debate than I expected. I'd just like to make it clear that I'm not particularly in favour of being in the Euro, I just think this would be one result of the folly of Brexit.

  • Read that thinking you were talking about Felixstowe and it got weirder and weirder....

Oh good, not just me then. That's a relief.

  • Hehe need to work out how to quote.

In all fairness to matt hancock, dover is more widely known than felixstowe internationally

  • If this had to be done without a general election, I'm sure some obscure back bencher could resign to let Philip Hammond back (or some one like him) to renegotiate.

    Also from my post 27585.

A 'usually reliable source' informs me that the Uxbridge and South Ruislip Conservative Party may be looking for a new candidate after January.

The gift that keeps on giving.

"EU and UK officials are in last-minute talks to avoid a potential two-way ban on a wide range of foods including sausages, mince and prepared meals moving between Great Britain and the island of Ireland next year, RTÉ News has learned.

Under EU rules, there are restrictions of certain meat products from outside the European Union.

Such products would therefore be prohibited from entering Northern Ireland from Great Britain, as it will still be operating EU food safety rules from 1 January under the Northern Ireland Protocol.

However, the UK has indicated it will, in turn, apply reciprocal restrictions on such foods coming from Ireland."

I knew GB food HAS to be frozen cos the UK left the SM, so NI will stick to EU food standards, but since GB won't any GB to NI trade has to follow EU rules.

But now they also want have EU rules on ALL food coming into GB.
Westminster voted down farming protections for farmers though it's all chat about "no chlorine chicken" but in reality, they aren't really protecting the full standards.

So I am quite confused, unless it is a dick move to try to get Ireland to be nice. Which is going to not go down too well...

I'm just so utterly sick of it now. I know that's a bad place to be in, but I'm just so tired of caring all the time. If the Tories decide to go with no deal, I'd rather just let them do it at this point. At least let them own their shitshow. I think I'd prefer to be as bad as it can possibly be so the scales finally fall from people's eyes. I think it's a valuable pain for the country to go through, and frankly I think we deserve it. Totally tired of it.

  • Broadly feel the same. There are no benefits to Brexit and maybe the only way people can fully understand that is to see for themselves what a shit show it is.

  • I understand the feeling, but they will just blame the EU. Many newspapers are ready to push the blame there.

43% of people didn't vote for Brexit parties, 57% will also lose jobs etc.

And it will make getting better trade deals harder. Thought maybe not... perhaps a temp shitshow won't make the EU set any harder conditions? That I don't know.

Perhaps in that sense the damage may make people consider, but we already know there is no majority for Brexit anymore and still... nothing.

Most Brexit calculations show poorer areas/people will be even worse off, so dunno... the punishment has to fit the "crime" of voting for the Cons bad Brexit? Unfortunately for many people it has to go wrong FIRST...

(before you think I am all sensible all the time, I had a huge rant yesterday to a Dutch colleague so...........) :)

  • Look at the recent headlines on limited time in EU second homes, etc. That was all down to "new EU rules" rather than just the UK leaving the EU and the rules that were already in place being applied. It's all the EU's fault.

  • I saw that article.

It ignores the fact that UK citizens were not permitted to stay in their holiday homes for more than 90 days anyway. Freedom of movement only entitles you to two non contiguous 90 stays per year. Anything else you have to follow local rules in terms of proving financial security, paying health insurance and proving you won't be a burden on the state.

It also confusingly calls holiday home owners expats which just isn't accurate.

  • holiday home owners

    Like Lord Rothermere...

  • Daily mail isn't exactly known for accurate EU reporting.

Is it likely most of their readers will take it in as fully correct anyway?
