On the alarm chat, what options are there that don't upload to China, Amazon, Google, etc?
Preferably something that sends me notifications and can be reset remotely.

Did you set up a management company for the block?
-
• #39354
Yes, we jointly own a holding company that bought the freehold.
-
• #39355
obviously
My experience is that none of this stuff is obvious :-)

Looks like after Christmas as we are replacing the windows too and they have been delayed by COVID.
Was on site this morning and the underfloor heating was going full blast, makes such a difference

This is more of a Bastard Neighbours rant than a request for advice, but if anyone has any I'm all ears.
Ask him what a 15% (or equal split) lease is worth him in £££
Actually what a ball ache that would be to sort out, ignore

Same boat, all new windows and doors not arriving until Jan/ early feb so I'm told.
Its going to be a cold winter with the current drafty ones!

Apple, Homekit, Adobe alarms.

A management company is different from a holding company. The management company is the one that collects service charges, either directly or through an agent.

We've dropped our price by 10k, see what happens i guess.
Place we were buying is going back on the market, as their new buyer couldnt get the mortgage they needed.

Are the nest doorbells easy enough to install? From what I can see I can buy an adapotor that plugs into an outlet and the cable runs straight out of the wall?
-
• #39366
Er, we only have one company that does both. Is that bad?
-
• #39367
No. Perfectly normal.
-
• #39368
Cheers, haven't heard of that before. Are you using it? Not really clear what it offers, if anything, without the subscriptions.
Think I may just sort the cameras out separately and have them controlled locally.

Personal choice ;)

You may want to consider hiring a management agent or at least get advice to make sure you are asking Mr 40% for his money in the right way.
-
• #39371
Are you carrying out the management responsibilities (eg H&S compliance) yourselves or have you appointed an agent?

After 6 other failed offers, just had a seventh fail for the most unexpected reason.
We offered £25k above asking and the seller was due to decide today.
We were the highest offer and the seller was about to go with us when the next door neighbours pop round. They want to buy it for their kids and will match any offer.
Seller (who seems a decent person) now in a real bind. She's known neighbours for 10 years and is giving them a week to get a mortgage approved.
I suspect unless they have a big deposit they'll fail to get one.
There's nothing else we can do but wait or find somewhere else. -

They want their kids to move in next door to them?!

Da fuq

Yep apparently it’s for the kids.
And if their bid falls through it ain’t a great start to us being neighbours and our plans for a loft extension...
I have a wired in alarm and motion sensors but this doesn't have cameras and they're not in every room - can I join them up with one of the other options or will I need to run two separately?
