  • Will give a dial restorer I know a call.

This is the way, see if they can restore the tritium plots. Get the movement serviced and call it a day I'd say.

Pics of the watch in question?

  • I posted a pic on here last year. I'll see if I can find it. Failing that, will take pics when its back from Roles.

  • Oh, so what are you getting done in the end?

  • Just a service with Rolex (which should dislodge any loose lume) and new clasp and then look into a relume. Maybe even leave dial and hands as is. TBD.

  • @JB I always knew I should’ve just ordered from source, the Japanese sellers are so good at packaging... 8 separate layers!

  • ooh that's nice!

    Who is the manufacturer?

  • Time factors, Eddie Platts

  • That does look really nice. Good size. The originals change hands for a lot of money now days.

  • Just as a follow on to my Rolex insanity, Rolex have amazingly stumbled across a silver 5700 dial.

They've been telling customers they don't have any for years.

Still not going to do it.

  • You have the gift of the gabb

  • Very nice. I'm very tempted to get one of these. Have you got a side on view of it, how tall is it? I find that some of these smaller dive watches can look a bit too tall given their diameter.

  • Out of spite.

    Turn the service down.

But ask for the dial half price as its not the same. 😎

    Flip it on chrono.

  • 13mm. Feels slightly top heavy but I still haven’t set the bracelet perfectly so might be that. Thought Eddie and time factors were great. Changed my delivery address after I messed it up and undercharged me shipping 👍

  • Cheers. I think I may get one.

  • That's not Rolex suggesting the dial needs replacing , that's them saying it's a necessary part .
We come across this regularly and I can see it from both sides.
Client wants to retain originality , Rolex want to do a job that they can give the same warranty on as when it was new ( if not a better warranty than new 2 years on a 32 year old watch) and they obviously feel a dial with flaking lume risks movement contamination and therefore cant give said warranty.

  • Yeah, I do totally see their point. Thanks for clarifying that.

  • As above, the new dial etc will be on the mandatory work list. Do it all or they won’t do anything, see it regularly. I get where they are coming from as far as warranty etc, but originality is what I am more concerned with, I would find and independent and keep it as original as pos.

  • If that's the same as the original do it!
