Anyone cooked anything with scamorza? Can't find much online
-
• #30406
Ahahah, not sure I am worthy of the reference.
Scamorza.. smoky or plain?
It's great on pizza, parmigiana, any recipe where you'd use cheddar, depends if you want a recipe to valorize it or just use it as it's about to expire.. Pizza with scamorza, sausage and aubergines as always been one of my favourites.

You can probably also cut it thick and grill it as you would with halloumi

Also, Thanksgiving dinner traditional appetizers ideas anyone?
We're making roasted chicken (not worth making a turkey for few people) with mash and roasted veg, gravy and maybe a pie or something similar.
Cheesecake to follow. Any autumny recipes for cheesecakes?

Good chicken will always beat turkey.

Speaking of which, any recommendations for butchers with free range grass fed chickens in Leyton area? Decided on this a little too late to source one from a farm/farmers market in time for Saturday lunchtime.

I think the whole point of currywurst is late night, getting off a train, cheap and cheerful snack time... Does it need to be gastro'd up
I ordered the Currywurst in a bar in Chur in Switzerland once. It came with gold leaf applied to the sausage! I complained angrily along the lines of your post.

Is the Hela curry ketchup similar to what you get on a currywurst in Germany?
I should also probably ask if vegan sausages are readily available now in the sort of establishments that sell said würste. -

Archrivals can order from hg walter, Ginger Pig, Yardarm

I'm afraid I can't remember if I've ever had curry ketchup from a bottle--I probably have, but if so I wouldn't be able to remember the brand, either. I think the last time I ate Currywurst must have been more than 30 years ago. It was something we were very keen on as children.
You can definitely get vegan Currywurst in Berlin now, and probably in plenty of other places, too, but I haven't had one yet. I do have a mental bookmark that if I ever get to Berlin again I'll seek one out, but maybe I'll find it elsewhere first. I haven't looked if someone's already started a business in London to sell it, but if they haven't, it can only be a matter of time.

There doesn't seem to be a standalone business yet, but this omnivorous place has it:

There's also this from Sheffield, which seems to be mainly a food van, again omnivorous:

Herman ze German on Villiers Street do a vegan Currywurst.
Their sauce is a warm one that's slightly more gourmet than ketchup, but it's nothing fancier than most street vendors in Berlin.
The kiosk top of Schönhauser Allee has had vegan sausages since I last lived there in 2012 - but the guy serving them wouldn't call them that, he just called them "strange" ones.

I hadn't seen the full link in your second post - but I can confirm it exists and is tasty.

I think I may have read about that one at some point.

Made some gyoza, going to cook them later today. My crimping still needs work.
Surprisingly easy and stress free as long as you split the making of the filling, and the filling of the sheets
Looking forward to wolfing them down, and burning my mouth on every one..

Bro, your crimping action! :D

Honestly once you nail it, it's a really enjoyable thing to do. They'll still taste good but the folds help hold sauce/crisp if frying.

Should have watched a video like that before I made them!
Next batch will actually have crimping..

Side note... Gastro is short for gastroenteritis here, don't see many gastropubs around in OzLand...
