  • I wish I could say with confidence that Biden wont pardon him, but it's hard to feel secure in that statement as the idea that it may be presented, and in turn lapped up by centrist Liberals, as a gesture of unity and healing is uncomfortably real.

    Pretty much this. Bush and Cheney set up an international torture network and all Obama did was shrug and say let’s move forwards. If you’re not going to prosecute that, what are you going to prosecute?

    That said, it would be just like the Democrats to pursue Trump for something relatively inconsequential because they’re more offended by his crimes against politeness than they are by the breaking of the Geneva convention.

  • Yeah this is true, I still think Bush and Cheney are notable outliers in the international crime stakes tho. Wars and assassinations are the norm for America, but state sanctioned torture / and on that scale - was relatively novel.
