You'd void the warranty on the Rohloff.
You'd get access to gear ratios that are way beyond the hub's design limits. It would probably eat itself under heavy load in the lowest ratios.

Fancy a ihg for my surly... alfine 11 at 409% is a bit of a step down on range from my current 3/9 at 600%+, Rohloff at 526% would be grand but too pricey, what else? Or is that it. Bite the Rohloff bullet?!

A 3x8 drivetrain from the 90s makes Eagle's range look like poo, too.

Does anybody know who really is the go-to London mechanic/workshop to oil bath a Nexus 8? I really would rather pay someone to do this. I feel like saying Nenor on All Saints’ Road, but don’t even know if she’s still there.
-

also would like to know this; I was going to ask Lewisham Cyclery if they can do it ..
-
• #90
I would want to find a workshop who do a lot of them. Might ask Compton.

Does anyone know if it's possible to route a gear cable to a Nexus/Alfine hub so that it's not just one long run of outer cable-tied to the down tube and chainstay. It would seem cleaner to run it more like a derailleur setup.
I would also like to know this. Surely, and less outer means less ‘stretch’.
-
• #92
You can, yes. Doesn't have to be one long outer.

Ta!

Four years since I first posted it, it's still around
I like the hydraulic shifting

The separable bits of this are weird!

Had anyone got a 7/8 speed IGH laying around that they want to sell? Looking for a nexus hub/ wheel for rim brakes. Would need posting to Bristol. Thanks!

London Green Cycles? On their website they don't mention IGH servicing specifically, but they do a lot of cargo bikes.

This Kindernay has some nice features over Rolhoff , but it also has proprietary disc rotor and sprocket lockring (are the threads compatible with cassette lockring?). WHY? It should have been designed to use standard parts wherever possible. At least it uses common sprocket interface.
From some videos I saw, it sounds noisier than Rolhoff, is this the case? -
• #99
The Rohloff also has it's own bolt pattern for the rotor. I suppose it's just been around long enough that they're more commonly available ( mine is made by Hope )
The lockring is a bit odd. Not many people carry a massive spanner on tour, though you'd hopefully be able to find one anytime you're near civilisation

Thanks, good thought to ask cargo specialists.
