The thing is, on the road wider seems better because you get better aeros and a grip due to the nice round profile. Surely on the grav your priorities change and you actually want something a little narrower (proportionally) for some sidewall protection and to allow a bit of sidewall flex to get the benefit of the larger tyre... Naturally it’s all a trade off though and you want the opposite for actually getting to the grav.
