But then I also like the idea of getting the oh-so-boring Surly Krampus type dealio for a Tour Divide setup. I know nothing about MTBs since 2000 though - I still think suspension is for cheats, disc brakes are voodoo and bars wider than your shoulders are for DH only.
Similar views on off-road bikes, and I got a Krampus and very much regretted it. Just took all the fun out of longer riders and felt like I was constantly riding through treacle with the big tyres. Got a steel XC bike with 2.2" tyres and unfashionable angles and riding up and down hills is fun again.

I'm liking bigger tyres. I wanna go HUGE. Mostly because I'm shithouse off-road but still have enough power to push whatever I've got. That might change if I keep riding dirt and wanna go faster but for now I'm already outbiked when it comes to my handling skills in dirt. I do want steel though and I'll concede a front suss fork if I can work out how to make them work for me.

After cancelling the Dirt Love seven days ago I just had the "it's been despatched!" email, with DHL tracking. Before I refuse it, does anyone want an L Dirt Love for what I paid for it?

Tried this with a parcel the other day, but the couriers are simply knocking (Or not, if Amazon) and running these days! Hope your WiFi reaches the front door so you can camp out there on the day of proposed delivery...
^^ Liking that Krampus

admittedly I come from racing cyclocross, weigh 65kg and like bikes that feel "precise". Maybe the Krampus wasn't the best match: it just felt like a tractor to me, and in a bad way.

haha indeed, I take it you know Jason, Ratboy etc.
I bought it off 12 and it still has a Stopadoodledoo sticker on the rear seat stay that you can just about make out

See, I like that. I want a suss fork version though and gears for XC stuff (trying to ride more and walk less). (Plus the ultra stuff, obvs)

That makes sense. People think I'm a tractor too. They use me to make trails, not ride them.
I want something that plows over everything. When I'm descending off-road I can't see half the things I should be avoiding (my eyesight seems to have gone suddenly to shit this year) so I want something that can make up for my poor line choice a bit, without adding the complexity/parts of dual suss. -

Also, no one has an opinion on seamless MTB shorts?

yeah, had some great times with my boy riding that. I keep telling him when I'm no longer around I hope he remembers all these great places I've taken him

There would definitely be pics of me in hospital if my old man took me on a trip like that.

At least you don't need Viagra for the foreseeable.
Oh, that's just your arm. Nevermind.

I'm still dark on the fracture clinic back home that pushed my surgery so far back the bones had started to knit and they didn't pin my collarbone, even though they GA'd me. That was mountain biking. Stupid fucking mountain biking.

Recommendation for a rear tyre for my Marin San Quentin?
Have a pair of these very cheap vittorias https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TYVITGO27F/vittoria-goma-275-inch-folding-tyre
But managed to tear the sidewall with a somewhat harsh landing.
Mostly likely to be riding trail centre stuff over the winter, so not too worried about deep sticky mud, more about decent grip on wet stone/gravel/roots.
Some kind of minion???

I'm still umming and ahing over design decisions, but this has me very inspired.
I still have a 2000 Avanti Montari. Rim brakes, Bomber fork... MTBs never really got any better did they? :D
