• But then I also like the idea of getting the oh-so-boring Surly Krampus type dealio for a Tour Divide setup. I know nothing about MTBs since 2000 though - I still think suspension is for cheats, disc brakes are voodoo and bars wider than your shoulders are for DH only.

Similar views on off-road bikes, and I got a Krampus and very much regretted it. Just took all the fun out of longer riders and felt like I was constantly riding through treacle with the big tyres. Got a steel XC bike with 2.2" tyres and unfashionable angles and riding up and down hills is fun again.

  • I'm liking bigger tyres. I wanna go HUGE. Mostly because I'm shithouse off-road but still have enough power to push whatever I've got. That might change if I keep riding dirt and wanna go faster but for now I'm already outbiked when it comes to my handling skills in dirt. I do want steel though and I'll concede a front suss fork if I can work out how to make them work for me.

  • Get a Krampus, I love mine.

  • admittedly I come from racing cyclocross, weigh 65kg and like bikes that feel "precise". Maybe the Krampus wasn't the best match: it just felt like a tractor to me, and in a bad way.
