Chainstay Angle - Help Me Pick A Front Mech?

Posted on
  • Howdy all,

I'm looking to install a 2x10 M6000 groupset on my Soma Tradesman and I'm stumped about the front derailleur choices. I know that given the cable routing on the frame I need either and FD-T6000-H-3 or FD-T6000 with the deciding factor being the chainstay angle. I've done some searching but haven't be able to find a means of measuring or calculating this. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Misc. Info:
    Seatube Angle - 69.4°
    Chainstay Length - 455
    BB Drop - 77

    FD-T6000 - 66-69°
    FD-T6000-H-3 - 63-66°

    Cheers!

    Right angled triangle definition.

Are you sure your seattube angle is correct? Bb drop also seems high to me.

Yeah. Taken from Soma's site - maybe something to do with the wheel size being 20"/26"?

Cheers for doing the math also! Looks neither of these derailleurs will work then?

    Ah, yeah. Funky frame.

FD-T6000-H-3 - 63-66° will probably work? Don't quote me on that though.

  • Guess I'll just have to take a crack at it. Thanks for your help!

  • No problem! I guess that stuff is useful in the real world after all.

Good luck with the derailleur. You could also try contacting Soma for advice.
