The grey ESI grips look so good on black bars + ti frame <3

Just as they do on yours!

Got some slimmer ESI in ‘black’, which appears dark charcoal, to try also.

This bike’s out of action for a bit; both brakes developed multiple leaks over the last week’s riding so I’ve sent them to Hope for a full refurb. They were ‘NOS’ from 2004, so I’m assuming all the seals had hardened after sitting so long without fluid.

In the mean time, more dumb purple ano garnish to stave off boredom...

It’s one of these from the mid-90’s in 3DV ano with a 45mm Ti bolt anodised at a funky voltage.

There is so much purple lairiness going on with this build. ITs like every mid 90s MTBers fantasy. I am completely into it.

Aside from dicking about with bikes being a revelation for my mental health and this particular one being most effective at preventing my brain smearing itself into a thin, viscous paste across the living room rug of late, one of the chief reasons for this bike existing is that it manifests the exotic shit I used to froth over in shops and magazines as a pasty, translucent ten year old.

Just got a call from Hope to say the brakes are done and are in the post. Two-day turnaround full refurb for not much more than the cost of buying all the seals and pistons individually on a set of 16-year-old brakes... Top banana.

2004 Mono Mini.

Service includes stripdown and cleaning, new pistons, all new seals in both caliper and lever, fill, bleed and pressure test, and new pads.

Brakes just came back.

Turns out that as well as all seals, pistons, pads and fluid, they also replaced all pivot pins, bushings, banjos and all hose fitting hardware, and the entire hose on the rear brake. The only things left original are levers, master cylinders, calipers and the front hose.

Incredible service, especially for a 16 year old set of brakes!

Fitted refurbed brakes, they feel a zillion times better than before. No leaks so far...

Put thinner black ESI grips on. Contact points sorted.

I had the disc tab done by Patrick at Limit Fabrications.

Fantastic service and result, couldn't be happier. Patrick made custom tabs to fit the caliper within the rear triangle and enable the use of a larger 160mm rotor on the rear, as well as eliminate the need for a brace to be added.

The welds are perfect, and the cost was less than half of what Enigma quoted. Highly recommended titanium craftsman.

I came up with a few whilst working out what to do with this frame. Enigma quoted sky-high like they clearly didn't really want to do the job, a few small independents ummed and aahed and didn't inspire confidence, and I went in person to see Vernon Barker's work only to swiftly nope outta there.

Can't praise Limit enough; perfect welds and took the time to fabricate the custom mounts for my frame instead of just slapping on a generic tab.

Been running errands on this around town all day. So comfy & chilled to ride on the road, due in no small part to the tyres, which also dealt with the rain better than anything else I’ve ridden.

Refurbed brakes are perfect so far, aside from both discs being slightly out of true. Gonna get the pliers out.

Was about to click buy on a pair of new rotors, decided to get the mole grips and masking tape out. 5 minutes later, both are effectively true. No more rubbing, bite point feels more solid through levers. So satisfying!

Looks like this is pretty much perfect now. That means: what’s next ;)
P.s. what’s the final weight?
