Cube Nuroad
This looks like a good recommendation as there are a couple of variations they can pick from depending on what they're looking to really do and I can hand over the recommendation and step away.

There are "Triban" at that price range. Good shout.
I hope Cube have improved their QC, because it was pretty poor... They also had ridiculous terms for their warranty.

Check the Riverside gravel/touring bike at Decathlon too

My wife's Nuroad hasn't had any problems, but sample size = 1.

For sure there are better ways, but they generally require complicated routing, or drilling big holes in the chainstay to fit that plug through. For a bike at that price point it would be difficult to achieve.

We sell cube and if anything their quality is excellent (these days at least), frames are generally straight and neatly built (way more consistent than cannondale for instance) bikes well assembled out of the box, only repeat issues we’ve had is with the plastic covers for the internal routing on the entry level mtbs pulling through occasionally.
The Nuroad range is fantastic, if @Velocio’s friend can stretch to £1300 and find a nuroad race in their size they’re onto a winner.

My partner's Nuroad has been great. Looks the part too with colour matched wheel decals etc.

Isn't the NDS cog to drive the NDS chainring on the pilot's crankset? Still not sure if it's a good shop or an actual bike, perhaps someone can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in their time?

That whole crank fixed to a freehub configuration would be a nightmare.

They've just used a stock photo I doubt it will be actually that one

It's like Grant Petersen went all modern
A friend with £800-1,100 to spend on a gravel / adventure bike for canal paths, river paths and occasional rides to Cambridge and Brighton has asked what to buy.
Is there a staple recommendation people have? (that isn't a sarcastic answer)
