But I'd do that for you Skully.

Thought the point of SS was to ditch all that hardware and the point of dinglespeed was because riding at 15kph to the trail was a pain in the butt so it gave you slightly more usefulness without the derailler bother. If I was going to fit a RD I'd put a full cassette on. I was considering dinglespeed for mine but it's now back to being slicked up for road/shopping use.

You can haz find the DOS fw?

Will a derailleur even shift between the cogs on a DOS? I did once consider doing this kind of thing with just a single speed kit and some kind of spring loaded tensioner, so I could use a vertical dropout frame I had. Never got around to it though.

Did he?! I had no idea.
It's a thing called a 'Pastey', got really mismatched minging decals (in the worst font after comic sans) and headbadge (a picture of a space hopper?!) including fucking UNION JACK and mahoosive chainstay stickers reading 'http://www.blahblah.co.ck' (presumably registered in the Cook Islands). Aaaah the noughties were a funny old time. 853 tho fam, and ritchey endzzz.

I’d be surprised if it did at all and absolutely shocked if it did it well.

Did you even need that big 5 technology though?
Got a SS MTB I just built. Light, nice, fun. Pastey ‘howler’ a red 853 thing. SS is nice. I like it. It’s come out light ish (for me), built some of Arkane’s nice 25mm internal 27.5”s onto some fancy black phil kiss-offs. Tubeless gravelly tyres, 180 rotors, sram guide brakes, these not yet sorted as they need to be bled.
Cranks still not quite sorted out either, ended up picking up some middleburns with a double... started wondering if a two speed freewheel with it might be nice. Usually peoole pair these with a double, but no mechs, that you change by hand. I wonder if doing it with mechs would be worth trying. Sort of a geared bike, but not loads of range. Could be worth trying. Anyone else done something a bit like this? The inches will end up as:
