  • I recently bought a X1 Carbon 3rd Gen for not much money, and with a new SSD it absolutely flies...

I’ve got a pretty cheap Amazon basics rgb mechanical keyboard with macro functions that you can try if you want?
    Practically unused.

    £30 posted probably?

I’ve gone back to using my IBM model M keyboard because the clicks are so satisfying...

  • just ordered a keychron k2 (v2) from ebay with brown switches. First time with a MK beyond some vague memories of finding a very satifying keyboard in the high school library... Anyone it seemed to do the multi device thing well which appealed. Sort of intreuged by potential for modding it (not so far as soldering) but i hear o rings and rubber bands etc can do good things.

  • O-rings reduce travel which is personal preference and also have a slight benefit of damping some key ping.

Biggest change I’ve made to my Kechron K2 is to move away from ABS keycaps to PBT. They’re less slippery and much nicer to type on.

    This is mine:

  • Are all pbt made equal?

  • Mostly. I would source from somewhere reputable like candykeys etc.

Make sure you have the keys you need. If you’ve picked up the ISO version of the keyboard, you might need a modifier set for the UK keys etc.

  • Any recommendations on a wireless mechanical (or chiclet style) keyboard with number pad?
Ideally with MX brown or equivilent?

  • Just discovered this thread and it'll be my undoing. Looking at the Keychron K2v2 and wondered which height wrist pad to get (13mm or 25mm)?

  • also got some PBT caps, although only replaced some of them...

  • Any recommendations for a tenkeyless or 75% cherry mx blue board? Needs to be white/grey for windows. Also under £100 notes please.

  • New or would you be ok with second hand?

  • I'd be open to second hand if it's in good nick and well priced ;)

  • Sorry, nothing spare at the moment :)

Mrs Hobs and I have a Leopold FC660M each, absolutely love them due to the low height and TKL layout with enough blank space on the right to not hit the wrong key when going for delete etc. New they're about £110-£120 so a little over budget, but you may find a deal or one second hand.

While looking I found loads of Filco or Ducky keyboards on eBay, get ok/good reviews but I've never used one

  • For a first mech board I think second hand or cheap would probably suite my needs, thanks for the help.

  • I have one of these (with browns) which i am very happy with

  • Brilliant thanks a lot, will do some reading on this compared to the Ducky. Ta

My Ducky One 2 SF turned up this afternoon, thanks for the help. Loving the clicky life, not sure about the rainbow vomit though.

  • What are people with US boards doing about using the £ symbol?

  • UK layout in software puts it on shift-3. Alt-3 gives # (which is called pound sign not hash in US confusingly)

  • Thanks for that, now changed back to UK. Seems slightly strange spending £100 on a keyboard where the keys aren't in the 'correct', place but presume it's a quirk of wanting a mech board. Being fairly new to all of this is there a decent choice for UK layout?

  • The one I linked is UK layout....

  • Preordered the RAMA Kara

  • This is up there with the "never shampoo" thread.

  • Non UK layouts are infuriating, mainly the special characters and password entry...

  • No need to type cast
