  • These routes look great, will probably borrow some parts of that Essex one next weekend.

Weather was perfect this weekend and the mud seems to have got a lot more solid on the routes that I did

  • There you go: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34604710

As I said, the last 10km is a bit commutey, but good to have alternatives to the usual Epping

  • Cheers for that! Both of my rides were Epping loops this weekend as I was short of time and didn’t fancy getting stuck in muddy fields somewhere I don’t know

  • I bet it was busy

  • Set off from Cheam on Saturday to do a modified version of the Denbies Wine Estate route by @routes.cc:

Shout out the Nissan Qashqai that brake checked me going down Box Hill, just about managed to not slam into the back of him.

Struggled with having to stay in the saddle on some of the lumpy bits, back wheel immediately lost traction if I stood on the pedals.

  • Yeah, back to the way it was in the later stages of the first lockdown, massive traffic queues trying to park at high beach & cars strewn at the sides of roads everywhere. Still nice to be in the forest on a bike though

  • Good thing they did the double red line, really putting people off from parking I see..

  • Thanks for the shoutout @ElGonzo - glad you enjoyed it, dicey descent aside.

  • Fantastic riding around the Mendips, though I confess this weekend to riding main roads instead of country lanes, and how far is that from Draycott Steep?

  • Not far from Draycott I think. I Don't know the area that well. Staying at other half family place but it's fun riding. I went arround some of the levels today. Great fun loads of small lanes totaly flat so my knee enjoyed that.

  • Late, but I did a much tamer Kent into Surrey route on Saturday than @giofox 's. I've got a week off work in a few weeks and have just borrowed your North Downs route off your rwgps, so thank you for having everything public!

I did see some llamas in the rising sun though.

Also a the second half of this route is borrowed off someone on here who made lots of South West gravel routes, but I can't remember from what thread sorry.

  • You missed the baby alpacas near Woldingham school!

  • Devastating - these disappointingly full size ones were just before the school.

I'd never rode through the school before, its grounds are mad. Also I was surprised that the route 21 runs straight through it.

  • just borrowed your North Downs route off your rwgps

Make sure to get this one, the one I rode was tweaked to ride past a few friends, plus I've made some amendments to this with insights from last week ride (sadly no Church Lane in this)

  • Also, stick to what you know in/out of town, did not enjoy that from my route.
The question still stands from km 82.4 to 85, that is a private track, I skipped it last time, but @elswick rates it and rode it

  • Yeah, no idea of the legality but it's a great climb.

  • You can use it if the gate is open, but not if the gate is closed. There's a sign on the gate saying as much.

  • Did you ride this? Rode it again yesterday and it proved very interesting in the rain..

  • I didn’t unfortunately. Followed a mate on a route he’d chosen that was also pretty fun in the rain

  • Did a 200k yesterday with the missus on the Mason, which I've not ridden since Transiberica last year I think (other than maybe a stint on the turbo). Lovely and sore in all new (again) spots. Think my fueling needs work again (not enough cals and not enough fluid during so now I'm quite a bit more sore than usual). Or maybe she's just too fast for me now and I need to add some brake rub into the next ride. #csb

  • Nearly weekend ride today.
1st bigish hill I have tried since knee knack. Felt OK now I have a time to try and beat next time. Was cold and wet but the views were great hope to explore more of the Mendip hills.
