  • Thanks : )

Maybe it's best to keep my options open but it's for a custom frame and there won't be any braze-ons for routing to a rear light. Mainly because I'm happy with the USB-chargeable light I already have and wanted to keep things neat / wire-free.

It was so nerve-wracking drilling one hole in the mudguard that I think I'd prefer not to try my luck again. Although hiding the end under the mudguard would prob be the neatest looking solution.

What's sugu? I did a cursory google search but nothing obvious appeared....

  • Ah ha, sugRu! Thanks @freezing77 : )

  • IQ XS

Don't you have problem with the switch ? Mine is really poorly made.

  • Fingers crossed, not as yet - the switch does seem to be the weak point of the IQ-X and -XS. Why they didn't just go for a proper one as opposed to an electronic one I don't know.

  • If I leave my AliExpress special (light) on it seems to flash rather than build up capacity, until I switch it off and on. Indicative of something about to go wrong or is this normal?

  • buy a proper, well-made and well-though light ? ;)

  • My Aliexpress special broke during the first 20km. Not that surprised for £12 all in, will open it up and see if I can fix it just for the lols

  • buy a proper, well-made and well-though light ? ;)

That'll teach me for thinking I had not just one, but two, winter bikes sorted within two months of the autumn equinox.

  • I bought Ali express light set, front and back for less than a cheap rear light elsewhere guessing that if either works I'll be quids in.
I plugged them in to a battery and they both work, nice and bright. I have yet to mount and wire then up and see if they are waterproof, but they should do a season or two and they come complete with all wires

  • A battery 🤔? Did you buy the DC or AC set?

  • If I drill a 6mm round hole in the side of my alloy (27.2mm, 4mm wall thickness) just above where the post enters the frame, will I perish in untimely, fiery fashion?

  • I'd strongly discourage this. That point of the seat post will be the most loaded and a hole that size will likely lead to failure.

If trying to route a dynamo cable into the frame I'd suggest going through the top of the seatpost at the clamp mechanism if possible.

  • I need that VO mount to mount a supernova light on the frame but it seems out of stock everywhere.. what are my alternatives?

  • It would be routed in through the 6mm hole (a Di2 grommet) and out the top of the post.

  • Any option of routing the cable internaly through the frame and seat post and then out the top of the post?

Otherwise I'd recommend running up post externally

  • In the seat post? With 4mm wall thickness? I'd say no, if you deburr the hole. But I'm a bit blasé about drilling holes in things. Small ones, anyway.

  • Front face of the post? Fire away. Very lightly loaded, and only in tension. Deburr thoroughly though.

  • Through the TT yes, but it will need to exit.

On reflection, I think a 6mm hole is probably crazy.

I kinda think a small 3mm hole on the back side of the post would hold up? It’s a basic, oem alloy post. Probably the best type to try it with. It’s thick n soft. The hole could be touched with a countersink drill bit to round the edge (at least on the outside of the post).

  • More details required, I think, I'm having difficulty visualising what you're trying to do. Di2 cable down the TT, into the seatpost, and up through the top? How will you remove the seatpost? Or thread the Di2 wire through?

  • P.S. Deburring tools for the insides of holes in tubes are also available...

  • Through the TT yes, but it will need to exit.

Can you take the dynamo cable internally down the downtime, through the bb shell and up the seat tube and inside the seat post?

  • Front safer than rear? Ok.

  • The TT routing is factory fit, through a tube.
