  • Anyone know what the going rate for a partial spray job is?

    Our family car is a van for a number of reasons. I may be looking to replace our current Peugeot Boxer with a newer one soon. The main challenge with this is making it look less like a commercial van, and more like a day van in the VW T5 mold. Like our current one, it will have two seats in the back and windows on both sides.

    I'd like to get a silver van, but then get the bottom part sprayed a darker silver, to give it that nice two tone effect. It would blend in with the colour of the bumpers, but I'd probably not get them painted due to extra cost, and the fact they'd only end up scratched bumped...

    Does anyone know what the ball park cost of that could be? Are we talking more than say £2k or less?

    If it's going to cost loads I might hold out for an all black van, but these seem be rare and expensive, while the silver ones are a similar price to the plain white options.

    Something like this, but with the bottom skirt section in dark silver/grey.

  • I'd budget about 1k maybe a little more for that to be done decently. Where are you based? I know a very good guy in Gloucester but that might be a bit far.

  • I'm loving the idea of a T3 Syncro at the moment. With big tyres.

  • Ah, that's sounds close to what I was hoping. Gloucester could work as my parents are based in Cheltenham.

    Its not likely to be that soon, I'd likely buy the van, get the important stuff done, then get the nice extra finishing touches a little later...I may tap you up nearer the time.

  • My mate's place is called The Motorworks if you want to check out his work in advance.
    A cheaper option might be wrapping the lower half, I also know a very good vinyl wrapper but he's in Birmingham which might be less convenient.

  • Went to fill up my car for the first time in months. Noticed some lovely brown on the inside of my front arches.

  • Any Morris Minor owners knocking about on here? I've been faced with the option to buy a 1960 4 door which is in pretty wicked nick off of my neighbour. Been dry stored for the past few years, he's too old to drive and wants it going to a good home. Wife isn't keen and I talked myself out of it as a result...but I can't stop thinking about it..

  • Not me personally but my parents have a saloon and a traveller. The saloon hasn't moved in ages but I'm hoping that it might make a future project for me now that mini's are getting so expensive. The traveller just got a bit of love with a slightly breathed on 1275 and some extra bits and pieces. They are a really usable classic and seem to have resisted the price hikes that have hit their contemporaries.

  • The Panda failed it's MOT and what needs doing is not economical. So, it needs to go off to a farm in the country.

    How does one go about getting rid of an MOT failing but otherwise we'll running car?

    As for a replacement, has anyone got experience of either a B Max or C Max? I want bigger than the Panda (but not too big) mainly for driver and passenger comfort (I'm 6'2" so the seat behind me in the Panda is not much use). Budget around £5k. Petrol, and I fancy an auto.

  • Put a steering wheel lock on it and leave it in Sainsbury’s car park overnight? Might get a decent payout also.

  • Yep, Cycliste and I have a newly-restored Traveller in totally standard spec, apart from an uprated gearbox seal. My advice is make sure it's sound and in good nick. Ours was ruinously expensive to restore - probably about 3 times what it's actually worth.

  • I’ve heard that can be arranged if you know the right (wrong) people. £500 apparently.

  • What needs doing to it?

  • Front suspension buggered, two new rear tyres, undiagnosed electrical fault affecting multiple lights. Already spent £200 on it in the last week with an immobiliser issue and for the service and MOT.

  • I reckon you could get the suspension and tyres done for under £200.

    Electrical fault could be a bit of a long one to diagnose though.

    If you're sold on selling then I won't try and stop you, advertise it with the list of failures, for a few hundred under market value and see what happens.

  • I have a feeling that whatever I do is only going to buy me another year and I''ll constantly be thinking about what is going to fail next. Not ideal with a little'un in the car.
