So it really seems like the Air M1 and Pro M1 share the same processor which makes me consider to buy the M1 Air and sell it to get the new 14" Pro when it is released.
My 2012 Air is not even able to switch to fullscreen on YouTube smoothly anymore -

You can probs sell it to someone on here and get reasonable money, the problem with ebay is that its full of cunts wanting a refund even though they know the issue prior to buying.
@Dammit
Have sold tech on Facebook marketplace recently. Only annoying thing was it required me to re-enable my Facebook account. Had a few timewasters as usual but ended up with someone fairly local who wasn't taking the piss -

Another good suggestion.

I'm claiming the device can trivially log the output level of all audio played through it, not just the volume setting.
No iPhone has a headphone jack, and for every Bluetooth user they know the model that's connected. A company of Apple's resources can happily buy and profile all of the common models. For unknown models and people using the analog adapter they can make average or worst case profiles.
So yeah, I think it's straightforward for Apple to come up with a reasonable estimate of how loud their users are listening, at least for the purposes of this feature.
(it is a bit weird that there's no way at all to turn it off)

So hyped for this duopoly-smasher
Methinks people forget the lessons Apple have learned about controlling platforms and distribution.
I'm hyped for the hardware, but very wary of what that means for Apple... by changing the platform they can change the rules of engagement. I'm expecting an iOS style app-store to be doubled down on for ARM laptops... with the obligatory control of the payment infrastructure and software as a subscription... the eventual cost isn't the hardware anymore, it's the ongoing software costs.
Why do I think that? Because this chip puts control so firmly back in Apple's hands that it takes their OS in a direction away from the rapid commodification happening elsewhere (the fact that every platform can now run the same binary).
Apple did this with mobile, and with music, and absolutely they'll do it with laptops.
It's a shame, because what ARM have designed for Apple and Apple have tweaked is truly great... but the lure of money that comes from controlling platform and distribution is far too great here.
I've only recently got into Apple, but I may exit it soon.

They've had the option to do that since forever and never have. Changing the CPU ISA doesn't make it more or less likely. The Mac App Store is still a joke and they had to walk back a big chunk of the sandboxing rules.
The fundamental problem is that macOS has very little reason to exist if it isn't an open(-ish) platform.

Great...
After being happy that my iPhone X is still alive after 3 years and there’s no reason for an upgrade today a line of green pixels appeared on my screen.
Anyone experienced something like this?
It this gonna cost fortune to repair?
(already tried restarting phone)

Definitely a new screen required.
Out of warranty so imagine it will cost ££
Looks like £ 266.44 on Apple's support pages.

Looks cool. Keep it.

It’s literally burning my eyes how bright it is- crazy.
(also yay for page #666)

Surely there's cheaper places than apple? Esp now that it's a 3 year old phone
quick google got me this - https://www.ismash.com/collections/iphone-x-repairs#:~:text=In%20the%20UK%20Apple%20charges,prices%20starting%20from%20%C2%A3160. - half price

Anyone downloaded Big Sur yet?

• #16642
Fuck sake, 4th time today, lowering volume even didn’t help and automatically set it to half the volume (inaudible).
-
• #16643
I did a full clean install last night - happy so far, but I'm not doing anything momentous on it.
-
• #16644
Fucking hell, 4th time today lowering it to zero (to my hearing aids).
Half volume is effectively zero volume, even set on 80% still do that, and 80% is barely audible with the Bluetooth device at max volume.
Fucking Hearies.

I suggest you get in touch with Apple directly, I haven’t had this issue but have found them very helpful on the 2 times I’ve called/emailed for support.

Many issues with failed downloads reported in macrumors. I tried once this evening and it failed so gonna leave it until probably next week tbh

My MBP faults:

The right hand hinge is the one that is slightly bent from where the Mac hit the floor. The coffee table is around 15" off the deck, for reference. The "O" doesn't illuminate and the 9 and 0 are a bit sticky - a Nanny State incident from some time ago.
Other than that, it's been into Apple Covent Garden to have the entire top of the lower half replaced which included keyboard and battery, and then back again to resolve the ribbon cable issue.
Apple have offered me £270 as a trade in, and given the bent hinge and keyboard issue I'm kind of ok with that - however, if anyone wants it with full disclosure of it's faults then I'm also ok with that. I have no idea what a fair price is, however.

I am, I somehow don’t think they gonna introduce a new update to rectify this unless enough hearies complain too.
-
• #16650
I don't think us hearies will help.
They can reasonably claim it's for our benefit to limit the volume, but they look fucking stupid stopping a profoundly deaf guy from being able to listen to his phone.
Ok you win. 1 internet point to you. 🥳
