It's not so much planning a route but working out diversions due to road closures / unsuitable roads etc as and when you come across them out on a ride. I can normally work out a way round whilst still riding if I zoom out and pan around. Having to stop and check the phone was a real pain on the 530.
True. Being able to work on out-the-fly detours on TPBR with an Edge 1030 when my pre-prepared route tried to send us down a gravel track or along a road we weren't legally able to ride was quite handy. Doing that with a 530 would have been a big PITA. I only really use my 530 on routes I either know, so don't need nav, or where I've done them before so I know that having to re-route on the fly is unlikely.
