Chains are comparingly similarly priced, but cassettes not so much. Especially for a range I wouldn't be using for 99% of times. you could probs acquire 8sp cassette, chain and some nice shifter for a price of just one slx cassette i have on now .

Just an 11 speed chain and wear guage is cheaper than all the other stuff, once you've gone through 3 or 4 of them and need a new cassette then maybe downgrade everything then, or grab an 11-34 or whatever else is cheapest for about £45, still have most of the gears you need for most riding, maybe 11 speed will be cheap by then as everything will be 12 speed.

You've already got the kit. Will keeping an eye on chain wear and replacing appropriately really cost more than buying a new set of components? 8 speed components wear out too.
