I wonder if they mean they will go on the spot instead of doing their 1-2 month notices.

Might not look good to get fired, then again hearing people managed to get new jobs with the worst CV ever.

FTFY. The concept of at-will employment mostly applies in the US.

My wider team in the US were all told 3 weeks ago that they were losing their jobs on a Tuesday; all gone by Friday.

This scares the jeepers outta me on a weekly basis. Though, fortunately, as a school, job sec tends to be insanely high at my work.
