  • I knew I should have searched my emails before I commented!

I'm pretty sure it was these guys in the end :-

    https://mdfskirtingworld.co.uk/mdf-skirting-boards/

The other firm were also from Birmingham, I remember there was an unexploded bomb discovered near their warehouse at the time I was chasing them for the order that never arrived. I honestly don't know if the refund ever turned up. I think their website was one of those garish ones that should be a warning in itself.

  • Progress.

  • Looks like you've got a bit of a straight run now. No central heating keeps you moving in this weather. Nice neat finish from what I can see.

Regarding skirting boards you'll be testing your mitre maths skills in the bay. Some tall ones would look great in there.

  • Heres a question, why are you removing the old floorboards and replacing them with the hardwood and not just laying the hardwood straight on top of the floor?

  • Doing beading in my bay window involved a lot of cursing, cutting things, offering them up and discovering the angle was backwards.

Incidentally, I have a maths degree.

  • I see your maths degree and raise you carpentry :)

Same problem with electricity. Design and installation is all maths but when you have your head in a consumer unit it's hard to keep the numbers in your head.

  • I should mention for anyone that has fiddly beading to do, these are handy.

I've paid less for pairs but these look well made. I definitely prefer the type with a Stanley blade in.

  • We used these? Delivery was simple and they have every configuration of faux Victorian styles you’d require in height and depth https://mdfskirtingworld.co.uk/

  • It’s all in the fill.

  • As someone who is trying to decide between bamboo boards (on top of our boards) or refinishing the existing boards, I have the same question.

I think underfloor insulation is necessary either way.

  • The old boards were in a bad way and where the walls have been removed the two floors are at different heights so no sensible way to go from one to another without lots of fiddly work.

  • Having just had a new bathroom in the loft, the soil pipe stack has been removed.
The new soil pipe meets the old stand pipe outside and there is nothing above.
In the eaves there is a stand pipe with either vent or valve.
Is this correct? Should there also be an external vent?

  • We went to see how our building was progressing this weekend. Every time I am there in the week it's been pretty noisy and busy so I've not got outside to the garden until now.

All looks great until we go outside and above the steel for the doors they've built the wall with breeze blocks 😬.

After some quite stressful discussions the site manager has accepted that he never even asked us what we wanted. All the drawings show a brick finish 🙄

They are now rebuilding the wall at their expense.

  • The vent can be internal if there is a one way valve that allows air in but not out (Durgo Valve).

  • Spray painting the internal walls of a house. What's the LFGSS verdict?

  • Do it

In the right PPE with the right kit and with everything you don’t want paint on masked off, obvs.

Iirc @soul had it done this way at his place.

  • I went for beech (oiled unpainted) myself as the floor is Beech SylvaSport, however I should have just gone for cheap B&Q stuff as none of the walls are perfectly straight and cheap skirting board would have been more visually pleasing

  • What gun you going to use? If you can get the setup good. Heard good things

  • Its all in the masking, very quick to paint.

  • Nah - wasn't me.

Did consider as I have a spray gun which I use for wood varnish / fence painting but didn't have the balls to try on interior walls.

I would say that you should look at airless sprayers rather than the cheap things that work for garden fences otherwise the finish will be a bit shit.

  • Hmmm someone on here did - I asked a while back (although now I can’t find where).

  • had a decorator come spray our fitted wardrobe last week. excellent finish and super quick. you need to mask a lot more of the floor though; less control over where the paint ends up vs brushes/roller

  • Was thinking I'd get one of the Wagner ones. Probably the best one for home use, not professional. Like this one.

  • How stressed is normal three days out from completion?
We went round to do some measurements yesterday.
Cannot wait though am afreaid of further LD measures

  • I keep seeing emails flying around our chain with everyone chasing everyone else for nothing in particular. Nobody seems to be waiting for any specific response ("my client would like to know when to expect to complete" "so does mine" sort of thing).

Resisting the urge to scream "WELL THEN GET FUCKING ON WITH IT!!!" on a Reply-All.
