  • Thanks for comment re the Super Drive. In case anyone has the same issue in future I got one of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015Z7XB30/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - and the drive is now working just fine.

  • Cross posting my my iPhone 11 Pro as I'm planning on swapping out for a 12 mini...

  • Lol, you're a badass, Corny

  • My iPhone XS has a black / unresponsive screen. Tried forced reset a few times with no luck. However it does vibrate when plugged in and when someone calls. Is it likely that just the screen is broken and needs replacing? If so, any forum recommendations for a reputable company that can do this - Apple stores or partners are all fully booked atm.

  • They release new appointments everyday. When I booked mine, I think it was about 11am ish. Worth trying a couple more times after different times of the day.

  • 699 for the base model ARM Mac Mini is spicy!

  • MBP with 20 hour battery life. Nuts.

  • It's all gotten a little bit shut up and take my money for me.

  • but no bootcamp : /

  • Windows who?

  • PUBG, console nerd.

  • Wonder how much speed penalty there’ll be for apps not running natively. PS and Lightroom apparently not running native until 2021. Assume Sketch will do it sooner.

I’m tempted on a new iMac but might hold out for the apple silicon one...

  • did find it interesting that they kept alluding Baldurs Gate 3 during the event - some mention of gaming even was a surprise.

  • Intel Macs will definitely be preferred for Adobe stuff for a while I reckon. Sketch are probably ready to rock already.

  • There are early signs they may run Intel code faster than native Intel hardware, at least for some things.

  • I'm on the fence about a 16gb 1tb Mac mini for £1300. At the start of the year I was thinking new Mac Pro but no way would I buy one now. I might just have to wait for the arc Mac Pro though, that would probably last me the rest of my days.

I'm going to have to wait to let someone else iron out the teething problems though.

  • Lightroom should be supported next month.

Did anyone get what the difference between the Air M1 and the Pro M1 is? I can't find anything on their site.
Also the laptops are unexpectedly cheap! I could get the 16GB/512GB for around 200€ less than the Intel equivalent. I was so close to preorder to replace my 8 year old Air but maybe it's better to wait for the reviews to come in. But then again, I'd buy it anyway. Argh

  • I may just pick up a discounted Intel Mac mini somewhere as they are still decent plus have eGPU support which ARM Macs do not.
Despite my constant badgering Apple are moving further and further away from making my ideal Mac.

  • The Pro has a fan, the Air doesn't, so it can run at full speed for longer. That's it unless there's something they haven't told us.

The 2 port MBP has always had different (MBA-ish) guts and a much lower power CPU than the 4 port model, so this is just a continuation of that.

  • They had been doing that for me for 10 years and now they are getting back on track. I was starting to look outside the apple ecosystem but now it does look like they will get another big chunk of change from me.

  • Think the pro has 8 cores and the air 7, though upgradable on the air

  • Anyone got a link to some writing about RAM? It maxes out at 16gb now, but maybe that's plenty enough for the new architecture?

  • The RAM is on the CPU now so access speed has increased massively which means less RAM is required. At least that’s how I understand it.

Still a bit dubious about some of the claims. ARM processors aren’t as good at multi thread tasks so not sure how it will translate. iPads always outperform MacBooks on single thread benchmarks when new ‘A’ processors are announced but multi thread processes fall short of Intel / AMD every time.

  • The memory chips are attached to the SoC package but are still discrete silicon dies, interfacing over a 128-bit bus, so effective bandwidth is similar to the Intel machines.

The 16GB limit is a deal-breaker for me, but the machines announced yesterday are all ‘entry-level’; there will inevitably be a 4-port 13” and 16” M1 Pro shortly with larger RAM capacity.

The real worry is a lack of support for eGPU...
