Yeah, the jumps mid cassette are uncomfortable at times, mostly in the faster/high cadence sections where I prefer to keep the cadence constant and just adjust +1/-1 on the cogs, it doesn't seem feasible with an 11-40 cassette.

All about the compact or sub compact x 11 - 40/42/46.... decent top end with proper climbing gears. Can’t help but think 1x on gravel biek only works when you live/ride places with rolling actual gravel roads rather than the varied terrain and the steep tricky climbs found in the #nogravel areas in UK (routes that were mtb in the 90s and early 2000s).

I’m really surprised shimano didn’t launch 10/11-51 GX but we’ll see.

in the US the rolling gravel stuff is there but there is also lots of obscenely steep stuff. especially in the actual mountains.

i feel like 1x grx was half assed because shimano doesn't really believe in 1x for gravel and have been generally stingy about having "mtb" low gears for drop bars.
