  • I had a nipple incident involving bib straps once, never again.

  • You don't really want to hear the words "nipple" and "incident" used in the same sentence too often.

  • There was someone, who only recently realised the norm is to wear your baselayer under the straps sadly I can’t recall to shame them again

  • Surely, surely, surely the clue is somewhere hidden in the name of the garment?

  • Rapha repairs exceeds expectations once more

  • Last night was the first ride in a while where my Brevet Insulated Jacket just wasn't warm enough (was about 2ºC according to Wahoo). I had a long sleeve jersey and a mesh base layer underneath and a snood around my neck to stop warm air escaping, but really felt the cold particularly on my arms and chest. Was just about bearable on the flat but coming down Highgate Hill and Holloway Road was miserable

Would something like the new PT Winter Jacket be warmer, or do I need to look into thicker base/mid layers?

  • How long was your ride?

  • I’m about to make one of these burner wind shield things from a kids insulated gilet. Seems like a great option to warm up existing kit.

  • a long sleeve merino base layer will sort that out, also don't underestimate a wind blocking gilet. The brevet stuff is breathable which means wind can cut through sometimes.

  • I got one of these the other week, they seem cool. It's the devils own job to get it folded into the little corner pocket to pack away but once it's in it is so tiny. I'm hoping that along with the shakedry I've just ordered it means cold start with potential for rain won't mean carrying around pocket fulls of clothing.

  • About 40km. Few laps of Regents, which was freezing, then up to Swains and back down

  • I have added a gilet in the past, which helps but then it's a faff to deal with two zips to get to your jersey pockets. I never really use the pockets in the brevet jacket because as someone else said, you get a lot of condensation in there and everything ends up quite damp.

LS merino would have been warmer, but not by enough last night I don't think.

  • Have you tried the wind block jersey?

I wouldn't tend to ride in much below zero due to ice, but I would typically ride all year and on the coldest days, that with arm warmers and thick baselayer vest I got from Aldi underneath, and brevet insulated gilet on top is all I've needed all the way up to long threshold efforts before starting to get hot.

I get so much wear out of it in autumn/winter. I was out on Weds morning for an hour when it was around 2 degrees for a tempo/threshold ride and wore all the above without the gilet and it was just right.

  • Quite like this

  • But you were responsible for DBAD so your opinion is invalid

  • Looks a bit like an 80's hiking jacket but I like it as well.

  • Just took delivery of it today. No taped seams I'm afraid, and seemingly less wind resistant that the pro team training jacket i have as well. Pretty warm though. I've only ridden it once, so not quite at the stage of giving a proper review. The texture and colour are really great though.

  • Weird, on the shoulder on the inside I’m sure there was a different colour over the seam... am I going mad!?
Do you have the purple one, looks much nicer in person than the web.

  • Take it all back, the seam on the upper back is taped, as are the seams at the zips.

Yeah i got it in purple, the colour is really lovely. The jacket itself is lovely as well.

  • I've been using the pro team training jacket, Spatz wear base layer, snood/gloves etc. down to about 4/5 degrees (so not as cold as you) and it's been warm enough. Wack on a cheap gilet to stop the wind and it does the job.

  • Haha phew was worried. Bit surprised it’s not that wind proof.

  • Probably me being oversensitive - will report back when i've logged some more miles.

  • Yeah please do as it’s definitely on my radar.

  • 4 degrees and very, very foggy today and insulate brevet gilet over a jersey and a merino base layer was spot on. It feels very weird to go out without a jacket and just warmers and a gilet but bar one long descent, it was perfect.
That being said, I reckon I could size down in the gilet or get a PT one - anyone have one to sell/swap? I've got a medium and am between a small and medium.
