I thought people got 1x because they, like me, can't get their fd to stop rubbing the chain for longer than a week or two before they have to twizzle it again

MTBs are coming out with 50T+ for a reason right? 32T might be fine for a 1hr ride on bridleways but some of us ride rougher stuff, longer stuff, carry stuff, yada yada and I was always the person that laughed at Compacts. I've
just got fucking oldermatured. -

It fuckin' shreds!

Being a poor mechanic is a good reason for removing parts
Isn't that why everyone on here rode fixed? :)
throws new Ultegra FD in bin

HTFU now means if you can do everything with 32T, you're not riding hardcore enough trails or your rides are too short.

Gearbox and IGH users need not apply
I've ostracised myself from the cool group :-(

The cool group?

You rode 1800km without stopping to sleep and charge your battery? Impressive 👏
-
• #13760
Probably busy charging his phone whilst sleeping so he can tweet about his gooch in the day.

😂

What would be the benefit of having a 1x drivetrain anyway?
Fewer cables & mechs to keep adjusted or collect mud.
Instagram skidders using the word ‘clean’.

I am going 1x. as the braze on the frame is too. high for sub-compact and I doubt I will use 50t with. my current fitness, i'd rather gear down at the front with 1x with my fav cassette; Sram 1170 11-36 than cross chain with 50/34

Is it that time again
Yes! Learn to descend better FFS.

You're assuming there was somewhere to charge my batteries where I stopped.
As it happens I didn't charge the battery intentionally to see how long it would last.
But you ignored the more salient point that people forget to charge Di2, especially sleep deprived people in the middle of ultra races.

• #13766
Wouldn't want to waste gooch electrons on gear changes.
-
• #13767
I forget to change mine when I'm at home, no ultra required. Went out yesterday with half inflated tyres and Di2 at 3%. Still, a ride's a ride.
-
• #13768
I've gotten up (miserably) a 25% incline on 42-32
Total elevation of the ride has more of an impact on your gearing requirements than a single climb. If you already have done 4000m elevation on the day an 8% climb will be harder on the legs than a one-off steep climb at the beginning of the ride.

Also 1x is meh.

Given all this 1x chat can anyone confirm that a Sram 10-42 11spd cassette would work with the Shimano GRX 812 derailleur? From a bit of Google it seems like it does work fine but isn't endorsed by Shimano. Anyone on here used a similar set up?

So do I, all the time. Because all my spare brain cells (the two of them) are dedicated to arguing with people on the internet not remembering that bikes these days, unlike the last 30 years, need plugging in now and then.
I don't mind half a commute riding the Kinesis singlespeed but half an audax is a bit shitty. That's why I tend to leave the Di2 charger, battery, USB stuff in the bags. If I forget I can ride and charge, no drama. That's why I don't like the bar end junctions.

I think there was a video of it working with a 50t cassette a few pages back..
EDIT: there you go https://www.instagram.com/p/CBYkj30A44_/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
I am running the 810 on a 11-40 cassette (shimano rates it for 11-34)

• #13773
Would probably get a SLX 11-42t cassette though

My stainless steel mtb walftooth was 110quid!
And 1x is way better for proper mtb

Cheers, it was more checking to see if it would handle the 10T. Seems like it would give quite a nice boost to top end gearing.
Also the XD drivers are significantly lighter and no freehub biting so intrigued by the option.
nice 0x dude
