can someone please explain the significance of 'calling'? i understand what it is, but why is more than just looking like a dick because you celebrated early??
Because the official result for each State isn't made until December 14th which is when the electors in each State meet to vote. Even then their votes don't have to be in until January 6th.
Waiting until December 14th would be stupid, so the various media agencies call it early.
The individual candidates/parties "calling" anything is just distraction or grandstanding. It should be ignored.
