Beware of the four week "free" insurance vets offer. Anything that comes up in that window counts as a pre-existing condition even if you then buy a policy with the same company.

We're looking at getting a lifetime plan anyway. Growing up I had a couple of labradors and despite being pedigree one had lots of health issues with his thyroid and I think diabetes as well by the end, so I'm wary of getting a plan that wouldn't cover pre-existing conditions.
