Dense polystyrene is an absolute motherfucker! I made huge sculptures using 3m marine styrene blocks recently. Increasingly heavy and tough. It’s the stuff they use for floatation in big yachts and trawlers.

One big caveat...it breaks down in UV light really quickly.

Does it? Presumably the heroic whale had a styrene core and a resin case of some kind.

Our job only had to last a day.

Well, when I say really quickly I mean quickly compared to other thermoplastics so pretty slowly. Or not at all if the whale was painted :D
