Thsnks, Yep I was thinking a cannondale 1.5" steerer or leonardi 1 1/8 might be the only solution given how opi stems have disappeared.....
Its sad that due to the wedge, just trying to adjust the fit means my current opi stem might be ovalised and its possible I'll need a new stem of the same length I already had!
I'm surprised there wasn't a class action in the USA. What kind of safety recall makes adjustable components into one time use consumables...

Yeah very unlikely. I had one but recycled it. It was fucked anyway. The wedge system they added to stop them exploding had the side effect of making the assembly destructive at removal.
Get the supermax steerer and the 1.5 stem, much better overall if not quite so aesthetic.
