I’ve heard people say Beagles are best off in pairs or they get fed up.
I’ve got a JRT cross and from speaking to various dog trainers, they seem to think that if you get a terrier that comes from a line of working dogs (like ours) expect it to have working dog traits.
A decent breeder will be able to tell you about the bloodline’s temperament characteristics.
FWIW border terriers are lovely dogs. Not as aggro as some terriers. See also Bedlington terriers. I’ve developed a soft spot for Corgis too.
Edit: just get a whippet like Stonehedge says. Great pets.
