• You asked for recommendations. Beagles and their crosses love the sound of their own voices, which is a shame as they're generally good dogs but like to lead from the front. Dogs with facial creases and squashed noses can have breathing difficulties and get infected, sweaty creases.
We've got a rescue Jack cross and he's the quietest, friendliest dog I've had since a Golden Retriever in my teens. I'd wager a rescue Heinz 57 puppy would be what you need. Battersea at Windsor has always got a glut of Staffies which is what I'd get if I wanted a third dog.

  • Yeah I've heard Beagles can be loud, also apparently their scent tracking means they can just be hard to recall when off the lead too. I actually really like mongrels, there's something I find endearing about scruffy dogs, they're hard to find though and hard to know what they'll turn out like. I'd love a staffy or staffy cross but they're a bit too big for the flat we're in now. I saw some lab/staffy puppies and I bet they turn out lovely. I've made an agreement with the GF that if we get a chihuahua now we can get a St Bernard when we have a garden.
