No i haven't, thanks.
It would be good to find something local so that the dogs first experience with us isn't a 4 hour car journey but i see they a have few not too far centres.

what kl says. I'm no expert, but from what I've seen I think it's sadly inevitable that a socialised dog will meet an unsocialised dog off lead... try not to feel guilty about it.
I've seen it happen with friends' dogs in town and in the countryside, but will be experiencing itself for ourselves at some point soon - we're in week 12-13 and about to take our puppy out for a first walk at the end of this week. Locally we've been recommended places which have a minimum of anger or stress from other dogs or their grumpy owners e.g. Shoreditch Park and Shepherdess Walk Park.
I've been reading Steve Mann's books and Ian Dunbar's stuff and they seem pretty good resources to minimise / manage these stressful issues - with some good tips around recall.

Tonights walk involved meeting a cockerpoo named Winnie, we've met her 3 times now and Murphy is mildly smitten. They have the exact same energy and love chasing each other about.
Tonight they were playing and chasing and jumping about like a pair of idiots, then both stopped at the exact same time to sniff a tussock in unison, them gamboled about again. It was a nice tank drainer for him at the end of his walk.

There’s also these people https://www.staffierescue.co.uk/
But they have a strict on-lead rehoming policy

Its lovely when they find another dog they just click with. For Comet its usually one almost the same age and not too much bigger but he did make friends with a bernese when he was a lot younger. That made for some pretty comedy zoomies.

Sent Murphy to day care for the first time, just for the morning.
Got an email from the place with a "dog report card", i thought it was going to be a list of his behaviour issues (nipping, chasing, jumping, maybe humping) turns out to be a series of photos of him having a whale of time. I am so pleased, will try and get him in every couple of weeks or so for the socials if nothing else.
Hoping he will be knackered too, as he normally gets to snooze all day and terrorise us all evening

Can't recommend this approach highly enough if you can afford it. The single biggest contributor to Otto's socialisation as a puppy came from regular walks with a dog walker and other dogs. It just provides a level of dog contact that is hard to achieve otherwise.

Still doesn't stop him from being a dick towards unneutered males though :D

Should be collecting this chap at the start of November.

Odie has taken a shine to a lovely Pharaoh Hound who we see at our local park a lot. Same age and same level of enthusiasm etc. Really nice to see them racing around and tumbling about. Especially as they completely knacker each other out in the space of about 10 minutes!
@kl @Carey Yeah it's definitely just one of those things. I think if the same thing had happened and the other owner hadn't been a twat about it, my wife would have shrugged it off and put it down to experience. I reckon he knew he was in the wrong and got a bit defensive.

The gf and I are looking at getting a puppy, I'm going to be working from home for the foreseeable future, at least 6 months and even then maybe just 1 day a week in the office after that. She wants something really small like a Chihuahua but I'd rather have something Beagle sized. We currently live in a flat but plan on moving somewhere with a garden asap (maybe in 12 months, who knows, EWS1 innit), there's a big park 15 mins walk away and a smaller one maybe 2 mins walk away. I'm thinking something like a Boston Terrier may be a compromise size-wise, does anyone have a recommendation?

We have a border terrier/ jack russell cross, he is delightful (obviously biased)
Most people seem to like him when they meet him on walkies.
weighs 5kg and is 6months old, reckon he has another KG to add.
edit: https://www.instagram.com/actualmurphy/ social media spam for his seldom updated IG page

I've always thought quite negatively about Jack Russels because they seemed so aggressive, do you think being a cross has helped?
What double terrier have you got? We’ve got a Staffy x JRT. Not a mix I’d recommend (certainly as a rescue that had little training/socialisation as a puppy).
