  • I hate seeing someone I recognise but don't know from where.

I'll rack my brains trying to remember where I know them from and it's slightly annoying. It's worse when I end up making eye contact because I never understand if they gave me a sort of look that is expecting me to say something, or what.

This morning I was in line at the post office and the guy in front of me was very familiar - the whole time I was trying to put a name or a place to that face. "Did we go to school together maybe?", "Is he a distant cousin?", "Friend of a friend, perhaps?". Nothing. He looked back at me a couple times, I avoided locking eyes but there was a time when it was impossible. His look makes me think he knows me, and plus he dropped his mask immediately after. So I just act surprised and blurt out "Heyyyy! How's it going, man?". He smiles, "alright, alright...you?", "Yeah, fine, picking up a package ahah". And we just stand in line for another 20 minutes. Hours later I'm having lunch and it hits me: he was a cashier at the supermarket in a different city I used to live in. What are the odds, right? Anyway, I got that little moment of instant gratification for figuring out who he was, but at the same it's disappointing because I don't really know him, I just used to see him a lot...plus, kind of embarrassing to greet someone you don't know. Maybe he thought I was crazy.

A similar thing happened a couple of weeks ago when I saw the lady who works reception at the hospital having dinner at a sushi place. I'd never seen her outside of the reception desk at the hospital. Fucking weird.
