  • Very well... Please post or PM me some pictures of yours :-)

I like the white dial too but leaning towards the blue. I already have the black dial on the GS, so probably won't go for that although it does look great.

And on another note - who pays £1-3k over retail for these? Even if the waiting list is few months...?

  • I've been browsing and found a Rolex I do like a lot.

    Things escalated quickly.

  • I waited about 4 weeks for my OP36

    ONLY 4 weeks???

I wonder how long a new 41 OP would be if the 36 was 4 weeks.

Who was your AD??? (shhhhh ill keep it a secret)

  • Tell me about it. I am looking for something for the 30th next year as mentioned before. Going to try a Speedmaster tomorrow, but now I've seen the 36mm OP I think I'm sold. Just torn between the white or blue. The BB36 doesn't seem special next to it (although I fancied the Tudor for over a year now...).

@Regal how easy is it to go and have a look at different dial options? Or am I only left with the pictures online?

  • @PawG this is mine, it’s the now-discontinued “steel” dial option.

Bucherer in Westfield (White City one).

They had had one in (actually they had all the colours in at different times except the black). When I came to buy they just had to request it on the next delivery from Geneva, no supply problems, it just had to be ordered.

It may well have changed completely now. I certainly don’t see as many OPs in the window/cabinets as I did. I tried a black 39 OP in that same AD before going for the 36, never saw a white 39 but they were confident any of them could be ordered. It was only the professional models that were a problem.

  • Oh hello. I didn't see the 5-10-15-20 around the dial before. Apparently, these are quite chunky, is that correct? The 36 looks quite substantial on your wrist.

I was able to. As I said, I tried a white 36, black 34, blue 39 and black 39, and then the steel 36 before ordering. The stock did come in and out though. It was turning over all the time. Same with black, silver, blue datejusts (the new model). They were around.

  • The new 36 doesn’t have the minute numerals any more, it has little squares like the 34 and 39 did/do.

It’s not chunky at all, it’s the perfect size (for me - I don’t have the biggest wrists but not the smallest either - 34 felt too small, 39 was too big) and from a distance looks smaller. Those front-on pics make it look a lot larger than it is. Also I believe they’ve slimmed the lugs down a little on the new 36.

  • I'll look into trying it next year maybe. They close on Thursday until who knows when and I'm not in a rush.
    Thanks for all the info!

  • The SLA017 alike that Regal doesn't like is in stock in the Seiko Boutique. Just sayin'

  • I tried a white 36

What's your 2p having tried it on?

It always struck me as the most timeless* and versatile. Don't recall having seen the steel dial before. It looks more modern but without needing any gimmicks... if that makes any sense.

    *sorry for the cliché

  • I'm really happy with the slimmer SPB143 and I have almost matching watches with you, so it's all good on that front :-)

  • It’s nice. It’s a warm-ish flat eggshell white. The main feeling I got from it was that it makes the watch look a lot more casual / less formal. I can see it would be a lot of people’s favourite.

Edit: actually crazy how big the watch looks here. It’s 36mm, I promise. I measured the case of mine to confirm when I got it!

  • I do like the white but it's discontinued I think, so there's that. I'm not paying £6k for a watch.

Some guy on a watch forum said this "Was chatting with our local AD last weekend. Their list for the new OP is running to three years long based on the expected store allocation from Rolex."

Does it depend on the location? Or is it this crazy all over? I will have to enquire soon to find out I guess. If I have to wait 3 years... that would be the longest time I've waited for a birthday gift. Or maybe the Rolex want will end just there...

  • Three years, lol wat

  • Edit: actually crazy how big the watch looks here. It’s 36mm, I promise

    You're @Howard aicmfp

  • The lugs and entry of the bracelet are quite wide relative to rest. It's quite a smart way to do it.

Hadn't realised it was discontinued. Shame. Not that I'm in a position to buy one for a quite a whole anyway.

  • Sounds like the sort of stuff I'd spout if I was an AD and had an annoying customer I didn't want to deal with anymore.

  • Yeah, sounds ridiculous.

I’ve enquired locally, we’ll see. I’d be happy to wait 6 months or something but would like to see and try it first for sure.

  • Anyone interested in my green steeldive before I ebay it? £80 pretty much mint.

    Slightly too big for me.

  • I'd say it's more racing green.

  • Laughs like Mutley...
