It's designed to fit like a jersey, I wear it with just a base layer underneath. Thin one in the autumn and then a thick merino one through winter. The most I ever need on top of that is a gilet. Pretty much the only thing I wear from October through to March. Keeps you dry in pretty much everything apart from really filthy downpours.
